Reiss mentioned that his guess is that the $4.5mm figure previously reported is a max, with Pro Bowl and other incentives.

It's the most obvious theory given for similar loot they passed on Hicks, a youger, more versatile player. I expect substantial NLTBE incentives. But with BB you never know.

So initial reports look way off base.

A few of our signings proved this year that you cannot jump to conclusions on the "reported" deal numbers. This is an excellent signing for the Pats.

Fixed it for you

That moment when you're close to finishing in the check out line and you remember you had a coupon for the Pot Roast.

The rest of the cap hit is made up of a $100,000 workout bonus, a $31,250 per-game roster bonus and $300,000 in likely to be earned incentives. That's a pretty good deal for the Patriots.

So it seems like just a hair under 3 M total assuming he hits everything.

Edit: Seems the incentives are included in the 2M project so it really is just about 2M

He may have realized his market stock wasn't what he expected. This late in the free agency there isn't 4 or 5Mi/y contracts being offered. His best chance to cash a good money again is to bet in himself and play a great season for a winning organization like the Pats.

We have been talking about this recently, after so many cases of players apparently in their way out of the league signing nice contracts after one year in NE, this will become a pattern around the league. You can even make a case that Martellus Bennet is another one of these smart signings from the players part. It's pretty clear right now, Bill is out coaching and out managing the other guys in the league by a mile, I expect another fancy signings like these in the next year.

BB is renting talent that is available, the mentality is to help the team in that year, **** the next season, the long term he addresses through the draft. The bad thing is that it's usually one year contract, but we get a compensatory pick in the process, too bad for the NFL they placed this new rule allowing trades involving compensatory picks. Now that this picture is a bit more clear I bet they already regretted and are grinding their teeth.

Maybe it was when you said you hate him as a human being, and then listed only facts that are about his professional relationship with your favorite team. You would also have to hate Ty Law, Deion Branch, Logan Mankins etc.

Welker maximized his money in a sport whose owners openly lie about concussion risks, and it's widely assumed that he probably took enough hits for that to be a concern. He signed with Denver after being as up front with the Pats as he could be about what it would take to keep him, and Belichick decided to move on as much as Wes did.

That those facts offend you so much that you Hate Him, a wildly emotional and irrational take to have, is quite childish. That could be where the dislike came from.

The only person on Earth that I'm close to hating is my bastard of a landlord, and he hasn't even said mean things about my favorite football team's head coach.

He didn't maximize his money, the pats offered him more than what he signed for with Denver.

What I listed above is included in the 2 million.
If this is all indeed true, then I change my mind regarding the Knighton - Fairley comparison.
If healthy and motivated, Knighton should provide more production/dollar than Fairley, just perhaps
in a somewhat different, run-stopping manner.
It wouldn't surprise to learn that Bill offered both Knighton & Fairley the same general deal, expecting
that one or the other would accept it.
