Strait talk

The Patriots worked out free-agent defensive back Derrick Strait on Saturday.

Strait, who opened the season with the Jets, has had quite a year.

He was initially traded to the Browns on Aug. 14, but the deal was voided when the player he was traded for -- running back Lee Suggs -- didn't pass the Jets' physical. Strait returned to the Jets, and was in the starting lineup for two games at safety. But the Jets waived Strait on Oct. 11 to sign free-agent cornerback Hank Poteat.

Strait was then claimed by the Buccaneers, but was released on Oct. 17.

The 5-foot-11, 189-pound Strait has the position flexibility to play cornerback and safety, which is a trait the Patriots often like in their defensive backs. After playing in college at Oklahoma, he entered the league as a third-round pick of the Jets in 2004.

Im thinking that my time to try out for the team is coming near.I figure I have a pretty good chance considering all the others BB/Pioli are looking at.

So, if we sign this guy, we will have one DB who is Strait, and another DB who is Gay.

Cant say we arent an equal opportunity employer. :D

Pats may also resign wide receiver Hart Lee Dykes.

I love how the pats and jets keep on swapping players trying to get more of each others game plan.

We'll also be signing Strahan soon. Oh wait, that wasn't a joke... ;)

I thought Strait won an award as the nation's best DB.

Nfl.com raves about him.

I remember I couldn't understand why he went in the 3rd round.

Just goes to show you can never tell about the draft and who will make it and who won't.

Some very reliable posters on other boards were heavily in favor of drafting him because of his play and his overall traits as a DB.

When he went in the third most of them were shocked.

He is more of a nickel and dime DB now more than ever.

I just want Hank back. :(

Ellis Hobbs and Asante are still out two Starting CB's right?

You know that's a good line when you wish you thought of it first...

Doesn't matter.... swilling brews in the Poteat Fan Club Lounge just isn't the same when Hank isn't on the roster.

Somebody keeps repainting the damn sign. too.

I'm with you, Bongos tackles better than any 5th CB I've ever seen!

You're a very funny dude sometimes, NEM. Seriously ROTFLMAO!

i was actually one of the guys who wanted strait out of the draft
i was very angry when we picked marquise hill in the second round that yr when we coulda had strait

maybe we could have both now :)

strait could def be a good nickle or dime back with gay out for the yr

(nem great line btw)

I have a feeling that, if such was true, Strait would be on the roster right now instead of Spann or Iwuoma or Andrews or Scott or Sanders or Hawkins or Hobbs.

I wanted Poteat on the roster and Spann on the Practice Squad. Now that Poteat is gone, bb is trying out players to see if there are players out there who could improve the team. Almost all of us wanted Strait in the draft. Even now, I tend to believe that he is worth a roster spot as another reclamation project, with Spann back to the Practice Squad. This is nothing against Spann, but he'll be inactive every game unless there are injuries. We can develop him on the Practice Squad. If the team likes him enough, they can give him a $425K a year contract to play on the Practice Squad, as they did with Yates.

Of course, if Strait isn't as valuable as Poteat (as the the Jets believe), then
he won't be signed. But bb is making sure.
