NFL wants to shield Goodell from testifying in Rice appeal hearing

Yeah, owners want no part of Roger going under oath. He can dodge it, then have a conference to tell us he'll get it right, and will continue identifying members of expertise for their team.

"I don't recall"

"Mr. Goodell, you were only asked to state your name for the record"

I said - he said, only I don't have to testify under oath.

A person familiar with the case has told The Associated Press that an arbiter has ruled that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell should testify in Ray Rice's appeal of his indefinite suspension.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because details of the appeal have not been made public.

The arbiter, former U.S. District Judge Barbara S. Jones, informed the parties of her decision Wednesday.

This could be tricky for the NFL in this case and cases moving forward, they could force Goodell to testify or risk losing their tax exempt status and of course contempt.

If it hypothetically came down to that either/or, I wouldn't be surprised if they just gave up their tax-exempt status. The MLB already did, figuring that not having to disclose its financials (things like CEO pay, etc.) was more valuable than the savings from being tax-exempt.

thats one way to protect the shield.
