This is a good situation but don't kid yourself: There isn't an assistant or coordinator in the league that wouldn't want to be the HC somewhere. As for there being plenty of opportunities down the road, those are some pretty famous last words.I called this the thread about his interview. Not celebrating, mind you, but I always thought that Josh would be better served here in New England.
He has a great job, a good paycheck, excellent working conditions and a young family who need a little consistency in their lives.
There will likely be other opportunities, better opportunities down the pike. He's plenty young and I'm certain he'll get another chance at a Head Coaching job. But for now, he's in a very good place and doing something he's pretty doggone good at. :rocker:

NEM, wherever he may be, is not takling this news lightly.
But... NOW who will trade us three first round picks for Mallett??
Someone here said that him turning it down to stay should pump up the team... which might be a stretch... but let's say it's true... maybe BB told him to do this to pump up the team. Here's something I haven't heard discussed: I'm wondering if McDaniels really wanted the Cleveland job but learned something during the interview he didn't like. Such as, limited say in personnel decisions, not enough money, etc. We might never know, but the fact he even did the interview suggests being open to taking the job.
I'll go with your first idea of it being a stretch.Someone here said that him turning it down to stay should pump up the team... which might be a stretch... but let's say it's true... maybe BB told him to do this to pump up the team.
Wow, I think Josh is overestimating his reputation. Broncos and Rams were a disappointment and most people believe that BB and Brady are the reason for the offensive success (which is true).

Generally speaking, when a coaching position opens up, it's because the prior regime did a lousy job and the whole situation is a cluster-you-know-what. Sure it's amateur hour in Cleveland. Just like in Tennessee, Washington, Tampa Bay, Minnesota and Houston. Just like it was amateur hour in New England circa 2000.Browns fans tired of being sick and tired - Cleveland Browns Blog - ESPN
Josh McDaniels made a great decision. It's Amateur Hour in Cleveland, and the aboe story is just the tip of the iceberg. After the Belichick, Mangina and Crennell story line, the last thing the fans and media want is another Patriots wunderkind.

I disagree. A great coach with average players will be an above average team. Maybe not necessarily Super Bowl Champions, but don't tell me that Bill Belichick taking over an average 8-8 team wouldn't have made them win 10 or 11.even a great coach with average players will still be a average team,
Well, I don't consider having the greatest QB in the history of football, even in his first year as a starter, as having "average players". But let's just say that I feel if he was in, say, Miami this year they would have done better than 8-8.BB did take over a fledgling 8-8 team... and in 2 years won a SB.
That's what I was thinking. In addition to #4 overall, early 2nd and 3rd picks they own Indy's 1st and 4th and the Steelers 3rd. That's potentially a lot of high end young blood to inject into a rebuilding franchise. Lombardi must have told him he's buying the groceries.
