    He really hasn't done much. And we now have Deaderick and Brace back.
    ===============================================
    Belichick brought in four while Deaderick and Brace were on PUP: Haynsworth, Ellis, Anderson and Carter.

    Carter (starter) and Anderson (depth) have certainly been an upgrade over Banta-Cain who they replaced.

    Haynsworth and Ellis haven't turned out as well. HOWEVER, we were definitely better with them than without over the first half.

    It is has been good to see the improvement in Love.
    ==================================
    MY BOTTOM LINE
    We really don't need Ellis. The roster spot is better used on a defensive back, special teamer or inside linebacker.

    Yes, Ellis is tying up a valuable roster spot that could be used for cutting other players.

    He should be. Based on my observations of Deaderick in the Giants game and Ellis earlier in the year, if the former is a Dodge Charger, the latter is an AMC Gremlin.

    Ellis is a good solder, fulfills his responsibility on the field on off, not a spectacular player at this stage, still a solid guy to have around.

    And I think the Pats would be on the hook for his entire salary if cut, what would be the point.

    theres more to meet the eye with the Haynesworth cut, I doubt it was due to his lack of productivity...by accounts, he didnt give any effort in the game, he may have been a disruption in the locker room.

    Ellis is hurt. Jermaine Cunningham was a DNP, coaches decision for the second week in a row. Two mistakes here: 1) drafting him, and 2) keeping him (instead of, say, Eric Moore, who was better).

    Cunningham was drafted to be a 3-4 OLB. Where he figures into the 4-3, if anywhere, is TBD.

    Ellis has zero left in the tank. ZERO. Cunningham is a total bust.
    Next question...?

    He played 4-3 DE in college.

    I'm aware of that. He was then converted to a 3-4 OLB, so if they're going to convert him BACK to a 4-3 DE, it stands to reason that it may require some time.

    Of course, it could also be that he's a total bust. But then again, you don't see Eric Moore doing anything, either.

    Next year we trade up to only draft players in rounds 1-2 ... then we fill out the roster with FA's ... :rofl:

    So he forget how to play 4-3 DE because he learned 3-4 olb for one year?

    Unless you think 3-4 OLBs and 4-3 DEs are fungible.

    I hope so, but probably not. Won't we end up on the hook for a whole lot of money?

    Yes, because Ellis has never been cut before.

    Of course if he was to get picked up from the waiver wire before becoming a true FA, then his new team would pick up his remaining salary.

    The hit he put on Tomlinson last Jets game was almost worth the salary alone.

    Hopefully he puts another one on him Sunday.

    Shaun who? Oh, Ellis. I forget he played on this team. :rolleyes:

    Cunningham succeeded at 3-4 OLB because he was able to use his long frame as leverage against offensive lineman. Maybe it's harder to do that from a three-point stance against NFL linemen.

    That said I also wouldn't label a player a "bust" after two seasons. You can't like what you see at this point, but jumping to labels like "total bust" is unnecessary. He was productive in a different role last year.

    ============================

    I don't think they should cut Ellis. He's shown some good things at times this year, though he's missed some easy tackles. I just don't see a reason to cut him if he's not a locker room problem. He's versatile and could plug in at 4-3 DT if needed. That makes him valuable.

    At this point, we shouldn't be shuffling the roster around much. The guys need time playing together. That's the only way you'll see this team improve.
