We would be the 6th seed and be playing at Texans (3).

Bengals (5) would be playing at Chiefs (4).

Steelers (1) and Bills (2) would have a bye.

We are far from out of it.

On topic, I'd recommend everyone bookmark ESPN's standing pages, updates the playoff races literally within minutes after games go final.

Even better, the playoffs aren't today. Since our coach knows that, it's kind of meaningless, because he builds to peak at the playoffs (hopefully).

I imagine the Redskins, Chargers, Jets and Bengals (just guessing) would have full trophy cases as mid season champs.

I'm looking way ahead, but I see a 12-4 finish for us and a 2 seed.

    Houston/TEN I doubt finish better than 11-5
The AFC west winner almost definitely won't be better than 11-5
Long as we fend off the Jets and Bills we'll get that bye IMO

We've lost 2 away games to teams in the top 8. We are 5-2. I see no reason at all to panic.

However, I would note that I saw nothing in Sunday's game that gave me hope that we could beat them next time without a lot of improvement. After all, they played us with almost all their linebackers out.

Starting to have mixed feelings about the bye around here, which is a ridiculous thought in itself; but considering that we lost the last 3 significant games coming off of byes, I'm wondering if having momentum wouldn't be better?

In all seriousness, I'm just kidding, and will obviously want the bye--but those teams certainly did not play like they had extra time to prepare, that's for sure.

FWIW--I love your optimism, but at this point it'd be nice to make the playoffs considering that BUF and the NYJ are strong competitors for the divisional crown. I'm not seeing a "#2 seed."

Young franchise studs Timmons and Woodley were in there, as Woodley blew up the O-line with 2 sacks and constant pressure.

Foote was in there all game, I guess you could replace him with Farrior--but I'd see little change regardless of the 2.

Besides Harrison, I don't see any change at all, and the Pats usually take pretty good care of Harrison anyways.

This team is gonna have to beat the jets at their place. The AFC east is very much up for grab. Its funny but right now even the hapless dolphins who havent won a game have a better defense then this team.:bricks:

Granted being the #6th seed means no home games, I would like the pats chances with that bracket. I like the wildcard game in our favor, rematch vs. Steelers, than AFCCG.

The main attraction would be avoiding both the Ravens and Jets altogether.

Since they lost to the Steelers, I see the seeding as being 1. Steelers 2.Pats 3. AFC West Champ/AFC South Champ AFC West Champ/AFC South champ 5. Baltimore 6.Jets/Bills

    Disable Jersey

I don't know of a single person, on this site or elsewhere, who had declared the Patriots to have been mathematically eliminated.

Also, the tiebreaker with the Bills is not in their favor, it is incomplete because we meet again, at our house.

Still a long way to go. Ravens killed Steelers first time out. We are only a half game behind Pitt, so the tiebreaker will not necessarily come into play.
Right now the Bengals are ahead of the Jets, and the 2 of the Chargers/Chiefs/Raiders that do not win the division are tied with them.
Jets are buried pretty far back right now, with only 5 of 16 AFC teams having a worse record than them.

The Pats are as low in the seeding as you can go being a Wild Card.

They cant lose many more AFC games and the Jets and Bills games are must wins.

Thats why I think rooting for the Jets against Buffalo is the way to go..Buffalo has potentially 4 games they will be favored in, and 5 they will be underdogs in. Say if they lose one in which they are favored and split the ones in which they are an underdog, that takes them to 11-5. If the Pats beat the Jets in the Meadowlands, it would put them with 4 losses already and they still have to play Philly, the Bills again, and the Giants on basically a neutral site. The Pats would 7-2, Jets 5-4, and the Bills 6-3. We basically control our own destiny if they beat the Jets.

we might have lost to the steelers last week, but it doesnt mean we will lose to them if we meet them again in the playoffs....thats a long way away...heck, we massacred the jets 45-3 then look how it turned out in the playoffs??

this is a strange year in the NFL for the AFC where I really cant pin-point any team thats ahead of the others...besides the Pats game, the steelers have looked vulnerable...the Ravens Defense is scary..but Joe Flacco seems to have regressed and can give the game right pack...same with the Jets....

even in the NFC, the saints..a contendor got WORKED by the winless Rams

really, it takes one team hitting a streak to go all the way

I agree with those who say it's too early to think about seeds.

Here's how I look at it. The Pats are on track for a 12--4 (my preseason prediction) or 11--5 season. If they take care of business against their division rivals, either should be enough to win the division.

Comes down to focusing on "Win the Division" and let the other stuff take care of itself because it's way out of their control.
