How good is our run defense?

hat I have seen so far is just what I have expected. We are pretty solid between the Ts, and most susceptible off tackle. Brace has helped this, hopefully Cunnigham will replace Ninkovich soon.
We are not nearly as strong in run D (comparatively) in sub packages as in the base.

Another point which Wilfork brought up.

Make no mistake. Fatty Ryan underlined the Pats weakness. Other teams will be rubbing their hands in glee. OTOH... I'm pretty sure that the coaching staff will have reviewed the tape and address the problems....

Its something most of us have known for a long time.

Hoe good is the run defense......Good enough through two weeks. Cinny didn't run on us and the jets broke a big run after Nincompoop missed a tackle

Cant solely blame Nincompoop for the "breaker".

And LT ran out the clock for god sake. How did that happen.

I dont think the run D was a glaring weakness. Outside of 3 plays (2 against a sub pass D, and one on a blown tackle by ninko, which account for 40% of their yards) we played the run reasonably well.
Teams running on our nickel package is low among my concerns.

Why do you believe that the coaching staff will be able to address the problems? As andy said, this is nothing new and was expected and predicted by andy before the game started.

Perhaps 10 games of maturity might help the run defense, perhaps not.

Well the run D should get plenty of practice next Sunday. I hope they increase Cunningham's workload this week. I can't think of a better time to get him large chunks of game action. I hope he is at point where the coaches feel comfortable starting him against the Ravens after the bye.

Come to think of it they will be stopping the run for the next two weeks.

He had LT dead to rights, but let him get away. I like nincompoop, but that was on him.

10 games? Sure hope not.

The front 3 held up better than I expected. The ILBs looked pretty stout too, but IMHO didnt create so much pressure on the inside, nor did they blitz as often as I'd liked. But its wrong to solely blame the OLBs for the blown plays.

Not exactly the Ravens though, are they?

Nope. But its about the only thing Buffalo can do...not saying they do it well, but it is less likely to lead to bad things.

True dat.

But IAH.... had Buffalo a decent O line instead of the gauntlet they call a pocket, they wouldnt be so bad. The two 1-2WRs they have are above average in terms of talent. The TEs they have do a job. They wont win a game, but they wont lose a game either.

Anyways.... here's to papering over the cracks !!!

Not really.
If we take away the run and they run (clearly thats the plan) then we are covering their receivers on 2nd and 3rd and long.
.

Thats when TEs come into play.

Yours Dustin Keller.

Why not 10 games? It took Wilfork and Warren at least that. Samuel took longer. Chung took longer.

The OLB is responsible for controlling (or setting) the edge. That is his job. Ninkovich is not very good at it. Banta-Cain is reasonably good, especially for pass specialist.

It seems so sad that we are talking about the performance of Ninkovich as our starting OLB. When I said months ago that he might be called on to start, I was simply laughed at. Certainly Belichick wouldn't be counting on Ninkovich as a starter!

Samuel has so many flaws to his game, its laughable. And people were whinging about how we should have offered him the fat contract he got in Philly.

Cunningham set the edge, Ninko can do the job, but the finger needs to be pointed if its not being done.

Its BBs job to see that. Or the coaching staff as a collective group.

Some rankings for our defense through Week 2...

1. Total defense: 26th
2. Total yards: 26th
3. Pass defense: 28th
4. Run defense: 15th
5. Sacks: 13th
6. Scoring defense: 25th

:(

The base 3-4 run defense, as documented by Reiss and Wilfork, has been the solid. They held the Jets to 36 yards on 12 attempts in their base however, when they have used their nickel and dime schemes they have been getting killed. The real conundrum their is they seem to generate their best pressure on the QB out of their nickel and dime schemes which leaves them pretty vulnerable to audibled runs.

If Crable the AR is rumored to be true, I wonder how he'll match up against TEs....

From what I saw of Crable in practice, he creates a surge on the inside and has reasonable space. Perhaps we may see a bit more push from our ILBs from here on in (assuming he gets some game time after Spikes, Mayo et.al).

What I saw Lynch do today was shocking....

I think people forgot how good he can be when his head is in the game. He is the total package, when his head is right.

I'd have backed Fred Jackson to have done the same had he carried the same load, IAH.

I wouldnt be suprised if Green Bay or New Orleans trade for Lynch by next week BTW:
