Drew never sacrificed for the team? Drew didn't eat crow when he lost his job to injury, came back and played his role to get us to the Super Bowl, then rode the pine before "banishment" to Buffalo? He took Brady under his wing in the opposite of the Favre/Rodgers relationship... when young pup Tom had been jumping on him earlier saying "I'm going to take your job!"
I think people remember what happened to them in their life, to an extent... I think Brady remembers a guy who bit the bullet and transitioned with grace... when the time comes, I'd love for Brady to hang 'em up as a Patriot, after "one for the thumb" (why not?) But if he's off to the Chiefs or the Bills or the Vikings at some point, I hope Prince Aladdin is the one here to pick up the pieces. He looks like a winner in the NE vibe/system.
I do wonder if it will get ugly in the end - and one day, whichever day you look at, there will be an end. TFB is one of the game's fiercest competitors... you have to wonder if that must mean an ugly departure. I choose not to think so.
Speaking of Drew, at the time of the change to Brady it became very heated, at least it was with the AOLes and Bledsholes. It was what I dubbed the Brady/Bledsoe war, and many Pats fans couldn't let go of Drew and actually claimed that he could have led us to the title just as Brady did. What has transpired in the years since 2001 has proven that Brady was the man behind the championships.
As for Garoppolo, if he takes over after Brady (for whatever reason) I will welcome him as the new QB of the NEP with open arms. I'll have no problem moving on.
