Presuming a Lloyd signing this weekend, do folks think that we should be in the bidding for Edelman's services?

Clearly, if Lloyd is not here, it would be nice to have one WR who has caught a pass from Brady in the past.

Is he worth keeping as a PR and emergency WR?

If lloyd stays...he can go. Washington is the new KR and probably PR on this team

    Lloyd
    Amendola
    Jones

    possibly Sanders

Is it bad of me to rather have Edelman than Lloyd? I mean seriously, do we believe Edelman can't run 6 yards, catch a ball and fall down? Can you see Lloyd returning kicks or punts or playing cornerback? I think Edelman is worth much more to a team that greatly values versatility as the Pats do than a guy like Lloyd.

To be fair though I also assume Edelman would be cheaper, but even at even money I think I'd still prefer him over Lloyd.

Edelman can do so many things and is a great PR. it would be foolish to not resign him.

He can run the 6 yards in the 10 out of 16 games he will play in when lloyd can play in all 16 games and get 900 yards.

Do people forget he was 80 something away from 1,000 yards? Edelman will never produce close to that. He wouldn't be healthy long enough to have a chance...

I think it depends on Lloyd and Sanders. If Lloyd takes a pay cut and Sanders signs, there's really not any WR snaps left to give him unless he's playing for peanuts and doesn't need to be a contributor outside STs.

I want Edelman back. But logically it is looking less and less so...

But what the hell is going on with this Sanders offer sheet? There are so many conflicting reports(And the Steelers have 7 days to match). I think Edleman back would hinge on a Sanders signing..

    Actually, I have no idea...

..Beli is so waste deep in the bargain bin right now, I have no idea what he is going to come up with....

Sanders either already has or is soon expected to sign an offer sheet. There have been varying levels of reports about whether he's actually signed it or not, but Sciz from PatsFans is reporting that it's inevitable either way, so the "when" isn't a big issue. At some point, I'm sure that five days will start. It was seven days under the old CBA.

Yeah, it's hard to see him returning if they get Sanders and keep Lloyd. But I could see Sanders, Amendola, Edelman, [big tall receiver], [backup receiver], and Slater.

    Let's not forget Jones.

I think that the choice is between Lloyd or Edelman. My choice would be Lloyd, but we'll see.
It would be good to have ONE returning WR on the 53.

Looks like Sanders signed his offer sheet..

Steelers WR Sanders could be headed to New England - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

    Back to your post.

Hmm, Back up receiver would be Jones, Big Tall receiver would come from the draft. Edelman might make it...

Either way, I am comfortable with the O. Just need Beli to shore up the D now..

If we get Sanders, Edelman would be the #4 or #5 receiver which is fine. I personally like him more than Jones as our #4 atm due to knowledge of system. He is an excellent backup, versatile on all sides of the ball and an excellent PR. He has returned a punt 70 or more yards and for a TD each of the last three seasons. He shouldn't be that expensive to resign too.

    1. Lloyd
    2. Amendola
    3. Sanders
    4. Jones/Edelman
    5. Slater

The only upgrade I can still see is either cutting Lloyd followed by trading for or drafting a WR with outside size that stretches the field. Either way I think Edelman should be brought back as a backup where he gives us good value.

Since listing Slater as a receiver is a joke, why are we limited to carrying only four receivers? Edelman is a significantly better punt returner than Leon too.

Since free agency and the draft aren't even played out, why do we want to cut guys now when there are plenty of spots in camp and these things always decide themselves due to injuries or new players not living up to expectations.

If it wasn't for the injury issue, IMHO keeping JE would be a no brainer. He gives excellent PR and STs play plus adds a very viable WR backup component. His versatility is exactly the kind of stuff that BB covets. Unfortunately the injury issue is real. I have my doubts that he is a 16 games a year player. Further, in agreement with others, I have my doubts that JE is even part of the Patriots' conversation anymore. Too bad as the JE of 2012, when he was healthy, was a very real asset.

If the Patriots roster has him down as a WR, he goes in the list of WR's.

I also don't have them carrying 4 WR's, I have them carrying 6. Slater is #6 and Donald Jones and Edelman being interchangeable in the 4 & 5 spot.

If you haven't heard by now, Lloyd is scheduled to get a $3 million bonus tomorrow. If he doesn't restructure his contract, he will more than likely be cut to save money.

I want to see him come back. I like the fact that he worked last year with Brady to improve his route running and looked very good before the injury. I'm sure BB would welcome him back with a cap friendly deal since he's so versatile.

I'd really like to see him stay. I don't think he'll be attracting any big money offers and he plays very well in our system. Frankly, I'd prefer having him on the field over Lloyd, I think he's a better receiver and if he didn't have injury problems he could have had an exceptional season last year. Doesn't matter what I think though, it's most likely up to Josh to decide which receivers he wants to put on the field and Lloyd may have the edge (assuming his contract can be re-written).

I'm beginning to think that we'll only have one of either Lloyd or Edelman on this team next year.

If Lloyd does restructure - heard he was willing but haven't heard that he has - then I'm gonna have a hard time seeing Edelman coming back.

Which is a shame because I prefer Edelman to Lloyd.

I think Lloyd is getting a bit of a bad rap here. 74 catches for 911 yards and 4 TDs in year 1 with TB was decent production. No question his YAC was lousy but his catch % of 57% for a guy split out wide is decent. He did have 7 drops but that accounted for only 5% of his total targets so thats not too bad.

As it pertains to Edelman, I view he and Lloyd have different skill sets and both and him beeing a little more like Amendola. Either way, both have value in this offense. I'd like to see him back too.

Also worth noting that we don't have to choose yet.

We can sign 12 receivers and weed them out in camp. We aren't building the 53 man roster. We're building the 90.

Lloyd put up very good #s last year. Edelman has never shown that he can do anything close to that. And Edes has a repeated history of injuries, missing lots of games.

That said, I as a fan see upside to Edelman. He's quicker and makes people miss. He can take a play to the house. Plus, he's a fine ST player, a dynamic PR. I even thought he was decent as an emergency nickel back sub. Made good open field tackles. So I too prefer Edelman but admit I'm emotionally biased.

I like Lloyd. I just like Edelman more. Because I always get sentimentally attached to our project players who make things happen.

Edelman is also a guy who consistently shows fire and spark regardless of the situation.

I think Lloyd gave us fine production for what we paid for him. I'm definitely not one of the ridiculous Lloyd haters.

I just am a huge Edelman fan and really want to see what he'd do in this offense as a starter for a full season. I think he'd be a difference maker.

Edelmans problem is his durability....it just seems he suffers a season ending injury every single year.

I thought he looked solid as our #3 WR last year and was very fast/shifty....but once again he gets injured which derails what looked like was going to be a breakout year for him at receiver

He just doesnt get open enough. He has quickness to work in our system but the route running and selling the fake just isn't there.
His production when he is on the field has been minimal and if you take away the screen pass, which has nothing to do with who the target is (although Edelmans open field running is good) you lose half of the already light numbers.
There may have been less than 10 receptions all season that were Edleman running a quality route against coverage and getting open, maybe less than 5.
I like Edelman for what he is, but I just don't understand how people insist on trying to make him what he isn't. To pretend he has skills he doesn't in order to pimp his value is more insulting to the player than recognizing the skills he does have and realizes that he is what he is.

Edelman never took snaps from Lloyd.
When we last saw Edleman he caught 11 passes in 6 games. That is not developing into a nice WR.
I don't have the exact breakdown of all 11, but outside of 1 58 yard catch, he averaged 9.2 ypc on the other 10 spead over 6 weeks.
That is 1.8 catches for 25 yards a game 'the last time we saw Edelman'
