If we win the SB, it will be four in six years, same as the 70's Steelers, but I think there is a difference.

People question whether we are a dynasty, but I think we are more of a dynasty that the 70's Steelers. Those four teams didn't have many changes, especially in the skill positions. It was really one team that held together for six years.

I can think of only seven players who will play this Sunday that played in the 2001 playoffs (Tom Brady, Troy Brown, Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel, Matt Light, Kevin Faulk, Richard Seymour). The rest of the guys who will hit the field and play are new. The Patriots are not just a good team, they are a dynasty that keeps winning even when the players leave and new ones come in.

To be honest, in some ways I feel like dynasty means the same group of people sustaining dominance. When it is the same team but different people it is an outstanding organization. You can call it a dynasty too, but it definitely isn't more of one than the other definition.

A dynasty is a dynasty. However I do think this would be better than the Steeler one from a front office/coaching/organization perspective for the reasons you give. I can't believe we're close again - but also, still far.

Some empires ruled for centuries, even though the soldiers came and went.

It is the Patriot Dynasty of this decade, the seasons starting in 2000-2009. I do hope that Scotty and Bill will be here for the entire decade. Few if any players will be.

In the end, it is the Patriot Dynasty, and it is ownership that defines the Patriots. If bb and Scott left and Charlie came back and coached us to our last SB of the decade in 2009, that would still be part of the dynasty for me. It is MORE of a dynasty to succeed even with player changes.

That being said, I personally consider this to be the dynasty of ownership, of Brady, of bb and of pioli.

Dynasty actually means the exact opposite. It means power and control is transferred to different people and dominance is still maintained. The chang Dynasty lasted for longer than a human lifetime, which is just one example.

I heard this conversation on sirius radio or someplace and I do somewhat agree. I like to think of it as a dynasty, because I love the team, but I can see that argument. it is more of a credit to bb/scott than anything and they dont get nearly enough national credit if you ask me

Fun topic, but we're getting ahead of ourselves here.. We still have an AFC Championship to worry about before we even GET to the Superbowl.

Killjoy, I know, but still... I'm big into Karma, so feel free to ignore this post. :)

Maybe what we're missing here is that there is a difference between a football dynasty and an imperial dynasty. The thing that they have in common is that there is a common link that unifies whatever group of people it is. Imperial dynasties have the bloodline, while the Patriots have take your pick (BB, SP, TB, Kraft). If you want to include Charlie coming back as an extension of that, then fine.
