Calvin Johnson wouldn't suck if Jeff George was his QB.
Let's not get carried away here. I get the feeling that some people here think Calvin Johnson walks on water.

I'm not proclaiming Johnson to be the messiah, but he's the best WR prospect to come through the draft in a long time. You must admit.

But just because Johnson wouldn't suck doesn't mean Vick wouldn't. Vick has one of the best TE in the game to throw to but he still continues to stink.
not sure about walk but with his speed he might just hydro plane on water
Even if BB/SP could swing a deal for the #2 Pick, does anyone seriously think that Calvin Johnson would be the choice? I'm certain they would take Joe Thomas instead. They just tend to value the line positions higher than the "skill" positions from what I've seen.

I don't see anyone can justify the 24 and 28 for the 2 straight up, even the Lions. If they ever made that trade they should be kicked out the NFL. lol
Normally I would agree with you - the draft value chart says that the Pats two picks are worth #8.
Of course, the salary commanded by #2 alone is much more than the combined salary of #24 & #28. I think this is the reason why teams AREN'T interested in trading up and why Detroit would want to trade down...
... and given the fact that salary, as well as the potential to get two starters cheaper than one from the first round, does in my opinion make the Pats two picks worth MORE than #8 to many teams.
There are some who think that teams that consistently have a high pick in the first round are getting saddled with high salaries based not on production, but where they were drafted. This impacts the salary cap and their ability to sign PROVEN players as free agents.
In that sense the Top draft picks are not necessarilly a desired commodity - especially if you are a team who consistently is in the Top 5.
Now if you are the Patriots, who hasn't had a high draft pick since Richard Seymour, you recognize that salaries are very quickly beginning to catch up with the new cap amounts. Rookie salaries - for a slam dunk sure thing - however still represent value (though if you get two starters at #24 & #28 that's even MORE value)
So I don't rule out a trade up by the Patriots if they see the next Richard Seymour who they can have under contract at a relative bargain for the next 6 years (it's still 6 for 1st rounders, right?). Just like Seymour was underpaid, if they make the right choice so too would that player be.
So I don't think the Pats would discount a trade up out of hand given what's happenign with the salary cap and inflated salaries of Free Agents these days.
