He's the defensive lineman I want most. Would be a slight upgrade over Ninkovich but in the "NASCAR" package he is a HUGE upgrade over Cunningham.

    Imagine a rush of Nink/Bennett/Wilfork/Jones

    Oh got-damn...

Actually the Nascar would look like

    Nink/Bennett/Armstead/Jones :eek::eek::eek::eek:

I would not rule them out upgrading the DT postion either

They reportedly had interest in Michael Johnson, so interest in Bennett would make sense. He's not as long or athletic as Johnson, but the better overall player, as those numbers help show.

I wouldn't mind kicking the tires on Glen Dorsey too. The DL position seems to be underrated in terms of potential FA signings due to our needs at WR and in the secondary, but I am expecting a signing or two of at least the middle tiered variety.

It's a position that needs some youth, depth, and improvement of talent; especially with Ninkovich, Love, Deaderick, Cunningham, and Pyror all free agents after this season, and Wilfork only having one after that. We're definitely going to see some positional improvement, along with a draft pick or two possibly even of the higher variety.

Silva has the value of Bennett at 5/36 for a team in free agency. That's approx. 7 million aav. I would think that is right on par with his worth.

Considering that Cliff Avril and Paul Kruger are both expected to get closer to $10M a year, that'd be a pretty great deal. The best player for the cheapest? Sign me up.

I love how playing next to Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley isn't enough for self-proclaimed "franchise pass rusher" Cliff Avril to best Rob Ninkovich in any quantifiable category (pressures, QB hits, etc.) What an overrated player.

Dorsey deserves a 1 year deal- if at all. Hes terrible.

With the exception of Nink, Jones and Wilfork, the talent on the d-line is very average...need more impact players for sure.

Entering the 2007 NFL Draft, some experts called Dorsey the best 3-tech DT to enter the draft in a decade. KC played him completely out of position made him concentrate on his weakness (run defense) instead of letting him penetrate inside which was his strength at LSU. I think he is the perfect guy to take a chance on to see if some of that magic is still there. If he can be even half the player people expected coming out of LSU then he would be a fantastic sub-rushing DT. Perfect low risk-high reward type player.

Avril is the best free agent DE. That said, Bennett may be the best value considering Avril is likely to get top dollar.

Bennett to the Pats could make sense considering Greg Schiano and Belichick are friends (Belichick might have gotten the skinny on him) and the Pats have a very good relationship with Drew Rosenhaus and have been one of the few teams that get the better of Rosenhaus.

What I like seeing from those numbers is that Bennett is better against the run as well as having some passrush ability. BB doesn't like defenders who can't stop the run which is why I don't think we will ever see Freeney in New Engand. However Bennett might be a real possibility depending on his money demands. He might want to move to a winning organization for once.

Agree on taking a chance. Hes got talent. IIRC he was very productive as a up-the-field 4-3 2 gap DT at LSU and KC totally used him differently. The same was said of Gerard Warren and he did well here. Also has the rep of being lazy.

Maybe getting cut will wake him up a little....

A little more on Bennett and what's happening in Tampa Bay:

    Michael Bennett and Free Agency

Tampa Bay plans to play Da’Quan Bowers, a second-round pick from Clemson in 2011, at left defensive end. They are confident he won’t miss games due to his gun charges in New York. And remember, a few years ago, he led the nation in sacks and was considered a top five pick until a knee injury dropped him in the draft.

The Bucs decided not to use their franchise or transition tag on Bennett, meaning they don’t think he’s an $11-million per year player. If he remained in Tampa Bay, he would be a nickel pass rusher if the Bucs plans to start Bowers were realized.

Problem is we like to use a jack on the strong side I don't think Bennett is athletic enough for that more a pure 4-3 end. Unless we move to a more straight 4-3.

Plus with Reese, Pioli and Saban all having Dorsey BB will know more than enough. He only 27 and I could see him really flourishing here. He just was never a 3-4 DE and that's all KC used him as.

Fits what we need as well

    LE - Armstead 6'5 295lbs
    NT - Wilfork 6'2 325lbs
    DT - Dorsey 6'2 316lbs
    RE - Jones 6'5 270lbs

That is a large in charge athletic group line.
