FOXBORO —
QB or not QB?
That is the question at the New England Patriots’ rookie mini-camp.
Over the course of a four-year career at Michigan State, Brian Hoyer threw for 6,159 yards, joining Jeff Smoker and Drew Stanton as the only players in that school’s history to exceed the 6,000-yard plateau.
Good.
But not good enough to be selected in last weekend’s NFL Draft.
Over the course of his senior year at Kent State, Julian Edelman compiled 3,190 yards of total offense, an average of 265.8 yards per game that included 114.2 yards rushing per game.
Good.
But not good enough to be considered a quarterback by NFL standards.

“Julian looks great at receiver,” said Hoyer. “He’s very quick and agile and he’s done a good job of transitioning from quarterback to receiver.
“We’ve been hanging out. He’s actually from Kent State, I’m from Cleveland, and we were talking. He’s going to be back in Ohio. I’m going to be back in Ohio. We’re home for these (next) couple of weeks. We’re going to try to hook up and throw a couple of times.”
