Interesting that they released Gaffney before Saturday. They could have waited a couple more days to keep the Seahawks in suspense.
Strange timing for Gaffney indeed - in the middle of practice week. They could use him in practice for scouting squad. He will likely clear waivers and probably join PS again since there are suddenly no RBs there anymore (after being three not long ago) .. but he will lose the last day of practice this way waiting on the waiver wire.
The only two reasonable explanations I can think of are: a) he got re-injured; b) they are signing somebody else (not Lewis) and couldn't wait till the end of the week.
There was rumour they were talking about John Jenkins before trade deadline. Another DT would be a good idea since there are no DL on PS .. the Q is if he makes sense now. Hicks turned out great last year so who knows ..
brandon Bolden and its crazy theres time he looks like he could breakout then theres time he doesnt look like he should be on a 90 man roster.
Good special teamer
Unreliable hands
Big strong guy
No ball carrier vision
No second gear
Cut his ass
Super Bowl season in 2014, he had 3 incredibly important ST plays. The forced fumble in the Cincy game which started turning that game into a rebound blowout, the blocked punt against San Diego and a crushing block to spring an Edelman punt return TD.
Guess the Pats should cut Ebner and Slater too. Bolden is one of the top 30-40 special teams guy in the league and a decent emergency RB with his ability to play either the "power" or "receiving" role.
If you could name some potential #4 RB's (which he is, with a healthy White, Blount and Lewis) who are more valuable than a near-elite ST player who is versatile, a coach favorite and has some versatility in his usage. Oh, and is the best blitz blocking RB on the squad.
I get that he has some memorable drops and he isn't a great runner. But he's a 3rd or 4th string guy who has consistently showed up with big plays on ST.

Yeah, but I'm sure some other team's failed early draft pick without ST value is a better pickup or some toolsy undrafted kid.
I really don't understand the dislike people have for Bolden. This team has won 4 Super Bowls, in large part due to ST, guys buying into the program, versatile players and "glue guys" who make up the quality depth and middle tier of the roster. Bolden is the epitome of those values. But yeah, cut his ass! It's easy to find good backup RB's! Who cares about ST! Anybody can do it!
