The New England Patriots have held a workout with former Notre Dame and Florida defensive back
Cody Riggs, according to
Ross Jones of FOXSports.com
Riggs spent his four collegiate seasons at Florida, but finished up his eligibility in South Bend last fall.
While with the Gators, the 5-foot-9, 185-pound free safety appeared in 40 games from 2010 through 2013, totaling 107 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two sacks, nine pass deflections, one interception and one forced fumble. But the fifth-year senior moved on to South Bend as a graduate student in 2014, and played cornerback in 11 contests to collect 36 tackles, one tackle for loss, three pass breakups, one interception along with one forced fumble.
Griggs was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in February, yet recorded a 40-yard dash between 4.41 and 4.46 seconds, as well as a 33-inch vertical and a 115-inch broad jump at his Notre Dame pro day.
Seen as an undersized but intelligent defender, Riggs is projected as a potential late-round pick or priority free agent in the 2015 NFL draft later this month.
