Wendell, Lockett, Richard extended - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston
The Patriots recently extended the contracts of offensive lineman Ryan Wendell, defensive lineman Darryl Richard, and safety Bret Lockett, according to NFLPA documents.
All three players were scheduled to become exclusive-rights free agents following this season, and all received one-year extensions in the amount of the minimum tender each player could have received.
Wendell had previously signed a two-year deal after being promoted to the active roster for the final week of the 2009 regular season. His one-year extension will pay him a base salary of $480,000, the 2011 minimum salary for a player with two credited seasons.
Richard signed a one-year deal with the team after spending the 2009 season on the practice squad. He will be paid a base salary of $330,000 in 2011, the minimum for a player with no credited seasons.
Lockett, who like Richard spent the 2010 season on injured reserve, signed his one-year exclusive-rights tender on July 20, and was re-signed at a base salary of $405,000, the minimum for a player with one credited season.
The only remaining player scheduled to be an exclusive-rights free agent is cornerback Kyle Arrington. The Patriots will have until the eve of the free agent signing period to offer a one-year contract to Arrington at a minimum base salary of $480,000. This date will likely be determined only when a new CBA is reached. If Arrington is tendered, his only option will be to re-sign with the Patriots.
