jesus, malcolm is going to cash in if he keeps his performances up!

Shocking that he didn't choose to sign a one year "prove it" deal for pennies on the dollar...

Why would he have? People who thought he would were delusional. Revis as a totally different situation. Knee injury, bad scheme lowered his value.

And those who think Butler won't cash in are delusional also. He may not take 50 GTD but if he evolves he could take 40-42. That would mean he is worth it.

Place Malcolm Butler in this range. Does he still get below Revis' numbers based upon what's being spent this off-season (unless you think this season is an outlier)?

You mean not everyone has to make a pit stop in New England before cashing in?

We might as well be drafting a CB with one of the first two picks then because BB/Kraft are not reaching into the pocket book that deep for any corner. If this is what Malcolm Butler is looking for, then I hope he's already looking at possible living destinations outside of the greater Massachusetts area.

If they don't think they can sign him to a long term contract, they should at least slap a first round tender on him for next year.

If BB let Law walk sadly Butler will be no different

2018 your starting dbs are Daryll Roberts and Justin Coleman.
We better have a pass rush

I don't see anyone paying Logan Ryan that.

With that said the 21st highest paid CB makes $10m/yr.

Why? In case Malcolm and Ryan walk?
Yes Ryan may re up at 6 to 7 mill and id be tempted to pay it but I would also be tempted to draft 2 dbacks and between them Roberts Coleman and any other diamond in the roughs rebuild the secondary.
I dont think Butler will get more than 11 but 11 is too much I dont go higher than 7 mill a year.

We may be S.O.L. if they don't want to pay more than 7m per year, which is quickly becoming the equivalent of the 5m a year that they gave their nickel CB several years back in Arrington.

Calling that a bit early...in the offseason preceding 2012 would anyone have predicted that Revis/Browner would be the 2014 starting CBs? We would have all thought anyone saying that was crazy. The salary equation for each position group each season is a sliding scale.

The cap will likely jump significantly over the next couple seasons and of course there's the possibility that Malcolm plays/prices himself out of NE, but that in no way means the starters 2 years out are guys already on the roster. It also means that they could "overpay" Butler now and have the contract look like a steal a few years down the road.

Totally agree with supafly that they might as well keep drafting CBs. Ryan isn't great but he's certainly been serviceable, has shown good ball skills and the ability to be around the ball, and absolutely worthy of his draft position. But ultimately I'll put it this way - I'd rather have them pay Butler big money and throw darts at the board for the #2/#3 CB spots than pay Ryan or some other 4th/5th year CB medium money and hope to get lucky again on a guy who could show true #1 potential as quickly as Butler has.
