I like Malik Jackson, but that is just stupid money. It is Jacksonville being Jacksonville.

We can say goodbye to Chandler Jones. If Jackson can make $15 million a year, then Jones is going to get $20 million. I know they play different positions, but Jackson has 14 career sacks and Jones had 12.5 this year alone.

Welcome to FA 2016: Banana land

I do. Check out their peers and look at cap hits and total cash payouts.

Well Miguel says it's completely doable. So I think i'll go with his opinion over yours...

Wow I thought free agency started today at 3 not tomorrow. That explains a few things for me.

No way he's getting that.

It's funny that these backs don't seem to realize RB is a dime a dozen position. But it's all part of the game to get the real $$ you want

Go for it. I think his numbers are conservative. The market is crazy

@AaronLemingNFL
At this point, it would almost be shocking not to see Danny Trevathan & a DL (likely Akiem Hicks) in a #Bears uniform by the end of tomorrow

Honestly would anyone be surprised to see Hicks get 7 M a year? Peace out.

Would suck to lose Hicks, but we got him in trade for Hoomanawanui who was the definition of a JAG.. so if Hicks does leave for that kind of dough, at least we'll get a 3rd round compensatory pick for him that will be tradeable in 2017..

Great trade in hindsight, even if he leaves in FA

McCourty/Weddle at safety with Chung in the box/erasing TEs in man coverage would be awesome. It's not a need but that move would make our secondary top 2-3 in the league. I think I'd rather do that than overpay a WR2.

Yep. Combine that with the pass rush the Pats should feature (given health) in 2016 and that'll make the defense pretty formidable. That big nickel package would be something else.

@caplannfl
#Colts waived former first round pick Bjoern Werner.

Lol!

Jerry Hughes and now Werner.. it makes losing that 1st rounder sting slightly less knowing that incompetent front offices like the Colts and Jets have repeatedly missed with their 1st round picks and got nothing out of them.. jerry Hughes seems to be a hell of a player in Buffalo tho, which makes it even funnier

I'm just looking at the loss of the 1st rounder as if we drafted a player like Ras I Dowling who was injured 3 years in a row and cut.. it makes it easier

Is Weddle really that good? Is he a better pass or run defender?

I think 7m would probably net a 4th rounder and not a 3rd.

Holy ****, if I'm the Pats and I'm trying to envision a future where we can keep our young defensive talent together, that Malik Jackson contract is scary. Seems like a crazy overpay, but that may just be the market now. I've never been more sure that Chandler Jones will be priced out of Foxboro.

As a more direct comp, I also think that Jackson contract just drove Hicks' value up some. I'll be surprised if we keep him.

Says who?? They can easily keep Hightower, Collins and Butler
Indeed. I would say Jones is the odd man out (the thought of him in his undies at the police station...that is odd too).

Please don't say "trade him for picks". This is a terrible Draft after 50. The next clump are the same talent from 50-100. Let's grade the Draft a "C" on a curve.

Players do get traded for other players (see Hicks and Hooman). The could be a "definite-maybe":

I was giggled at when I said Chandler Jones for Michael Floyd, WR of the Cards.......but.....The Cards made a big push for Irvin and it looks like he is to the Jags. Might be amicable to a trade. It is actually a very fair trade. We have to take the best deal we can

The other deal I mentioned and I was raucously laughed at. I said Jones for Joe Haden and Josh Gordon. Both are iffy right now. Hayden supposedly healthy but had two concussions in 2015 and Gordon tales an Advil and he might be gone. Again...fair deal. The Browns seek a pass rusher.

That being said, Mike Wallace is an interesting thought. 140 catches and 15 TDs with Tannehill in his two years at Miami for crying out loud. Zimmer said he was a good soldier. Hands have been fine. Great speed. Better route runner now. Just a CAP cut and no deep threat needed for Teddy. He appears to have made his big bucks. Maybe now he plays for a ring here.

Why hasn't Hicks been resigned BB?

That number's going to have to come down, because nobody's dumb enough to pay Ivory $6.5M per year. Pats wouldn't entertain paying half of that, IMO. Either way, the fact that that's what he's even asking for likely takes him off of the Pats' radar (if he was on it to begin with).

Because Hicks is going to receive high tier money and he is not a high tier player.
Jones should get 8 mill a year not Hicks.
