I'm really bullish on them taking the AFCS next year. They've got a lot of the pieces in place.

If that defense plays just solid and Bortles takes even a slight step forward would not surprise me to see them win the division. But it is big IF

Wake is 34 coming back from a torn achilles.

Williams is 31 and isn't..

I could see why they would make the move..

Cutting Wake for Williams cap wise is a lateral move. Cutting Wake frees up $8m. Which is what is being reported around what Williams will make per year
But they may lose Vernon too.

Packers showing interest in Matt forte

This is where i think he ends up. Playing Chi twice a year i bet would be nice to him plus Packers have a good QB and will be in the playoff mix

I don't really see the fit. I mean, I am not saying the source is not genuine, it is just that Ted Thompson hardly ever signs UFA from other clubs, and that Forte will be a very expensive 3rd down back while Lacy handles the bulk of the touches on the early downs.

So apparently the Jags are trying to get Vernon and one of the top CBs.

The Packers need another weapon in the passing game that gets open quickly on the short routes and a guy that can spell Lacy's fat ass. The move is a no brainer.

Jeez. And they're going to end up paying a lot for all of these guys. Where will they get the money for Bortles, Robinson, and Hurns? I understand they have $82M in cap space but if they spend like drunken sailors, it will hurt their ability to sign those three.

I am not arguing against the need, only that the team, historically under Thompson, are more likely to draft the player as opposed to opening the wallets to sign an UFA from another team.

Eh, they signed Peppers. But yes, historically, they prefer to draft younger talent.

While I agree that Malik got overpayed I don't understand ehy people here are so shocked about those numbers. Increasing cap space means bigger paychecks all around.

Good point, on Peppers. And the rumor is he is recruiting Forte.

The rivalry with the Bears may factor into it as well. The Packers have loved to play mind-games with the Bears. This has been manifest during my time living out here in Chicago.

They had 80ish in cap space. This doesn't make a dent.

Remember that the Jags drafted Fowler as well last year. If Fowler recovers from injury, he and Jackson could very much improve a pass rush that was downright awful last year. The Jags are a team on the rise. If they can fix the OL and add a few pieces to their secondary, they could easily contend for that division.

Bortles appears to be the real deal as well.. he reminds me of a young Roethlisberger

I'm really interested to see the money on this Watson deal. He sounded like he'd be back in NO, so the Ravens clearly did some convincing, either monetarily or otherwise.
