Criticism of NFL’s handling of #DeflateGate becomes mainstream

I'm starting to hope they release some numbers. They'll look like fools no matter how they try to spin it.

Yep which is why the numbers will never see the light of day.

Lets play it out.

Scenario A- the findings show IDL holds true to form.

Scenario B- the findings show that IDL held true, but was compromised because of a screw up in the chain of custody. Refs, gauges, flawed replication of procedure defined to obtain measurements, conspiracy to deflate/inflate by teams, etc.

In Scenario B, where is the accountability? Why did the league not go after the guilty party with the same veracity as it did TB12 and the NEP?

If they start trying to peddle anything to the public about this they are nothing but lying, manipulative hucksters

robertweathers.... the biggest problem, outside of the lack of trust in the NFL's handling of this matter, is there is no concrete, recorded, base line for all the measurements. Anderson "recalls" the PSI levels of the Patriot footballs and did not record them. You think he will say something that will hurt him? Plus the handling at halftime appeared to be designed to have the results found with no comments regarding the low pressure of the Colts footballs measured and the cause for it. All in all, a set-up from the git-go!

As long as Goodell is being "guided" by certain jealous owners with an agenda, regardless of the facts, this will continue to simmer. NFL has gone too far at this point to suddenly pull a Roseanne-Roseanne - a- Dana to say "Never Mind" now!

I think you mean Miss Emily Litella.

It occurred to me that another reason the owners want the draft picks gone is the jealousy in the Pats being able to get elite players like Brady and Edelman, in the 6th and 7th round, while other teams are botching very high picks.

That's just not fair! If the Pats are going to keep defying the laws of parity and keep dominating without top of the draft players, let's make them continue doing so, or at least give up the picks those players SHOULD have cost!

Goodell will just stick with his rhetoric that there was a scheme. (for proof he'll) make a vague reference to something at some other time that will hold no context or meaning. Like he did with, "I said what I said and it's all in the Wells report" nonsense.

Really, he's just saying stupid because that is either what he "believes", "wants", or is being directed to do so. It would take a lawsuit for the what could be viewed as a criminal offense to make the NFL* capitulate.

Perhaps they'll do it after the draft...
Doubt it.

Aside from my death, I am completely certain as long as Goodell is Omissioner of the NFL, the NFL Draft will never be in Boston.

I agree Roger will dodge Boston as much as possible.

However, that was a non-sequitur for the inquisitioner releasing PSI numbers?

Even if you could get most sports fans to agree the NFL* got this wrong, they'd still be ok with the Patriots getting punished.

Because the damage has been done and they'l always think BB & Co. have done something wrong. It's like the Field of Dreams movie, except it's more like the "Field of Nightmares". Because the majority just don't think sustained success is possible, they have to believe that something nefarious is going on.

i.e. Goodell and the Refs are in Krafts pocket despite the evidence clearly in front of them (then again, everyone thinks the refs are out to get them because it seems more calls go against you than for you...confirmation bias).

BUT, for the Patriots it's even worse because the Media (i.e. BIG business) uses the formula and the masses are just too plain stupid to think for themselves when it makes them feel better (and putting other people down to lift yourself up, really shouldn't make one feel better as your situation is unchanged).

EDIT: Apologies for getting on my high horse, please don't take it out on the horse or the PETA people will come for you.
Sorry, but the horse is guilty by association.:D

Super Bowl week.....Goodell gives his annual presser. Unless he cherry picks his questioners with extraordinary precision, he will have to face direct questions.

OT: I'm sure many on this board also post comments on ProFootballTalk...so ....I'm curious if others also get posts deleted on PFT. Back during the first few months of DefameGate, my standard "Goodell lies / ESPN lies" posts would survive the vetting process and get a very positive reaction. Now I would say 50% of my comments don't pass the screening process and my "Goodell lies / ESPN lies" posts never survive. I noticed today one of my comments made it into the comment section but with zero ratings despite the posts in front of and after my post with hundreds of ratings. In other words, PFT has is pretending that the world sees my post but the truth is that I have been marginalized. Just curious if anyone else is getting the similar treatment. Maybe this is their "banning" technique...."let the psycho Pats fan think he's special" :)

Most people are still generally misinformed. Friends and family look at me strange a year later when I suggest Nature is the culprit. Some of them are even intelligent, but grossly ignorant of the facts and numbers.

Agreed. People will believe what they want to believe regardless of the facts. Those that hate the Patriots have long decided that Brady let air out of footballs, and they have blocked any information that disputes this from entering their brains.

This is no more apparent than from reading the comments on any article that's posted about the Patriots. Just yesterday I read a comment that said "If air was lost due to the weather, how come none of the Colts footballs were under 12.5 psi?"

I'm sure that there are still a great number of people that think that Richard Jewel bombed the Atlanta Olympics

Did PFT disable comments? That's the first PFT article I've ever seen that had zero comments this long after it was posted.

There is one comment. haha

All New England can do is keep winning Super Bowls. You can't change the script on this story to go against the NFL in the public eye. All you can do is bury it into time to make people forget about it. Keep winning and it gets more and more forgotten and only becomes a minor footnote at the end of the day.

You should KNOW better at this point. They'll find a way

Someone has to release the PSI results from the season and this will really become viral.

No it won't. They are not going to release mid game pressure measurements which would show the effects of weather. They may release measurements after the footballs warm back up which will only show balls within regulation.

The NFL will ride this fiasco until the end. If it's not the PSI, then its the piss break. But if you don't like that one, they will switch to the phone. It isn't a question of was there a problem anymore, its just the NFL in too deep with no way to get out of it! So they will hang on until the music stops.

We should appreciate that Florio even took the time to comment on the NYT article, VERY few others in the national media bothered to. I just wish Mike took the next step and ask, "Why are Pats losing their draft picks when it is clear they didn't do anything".

His is still walking the tightrope. All during the deflategate saga, Florio question the NFL, but always qualified his belief that the Pats were fully innocent. (the old "they MUST be doing something" excuse). Now he's edged closer to it, but still hasn't taken the final step.

BTW- I DO think that public opinion has changed a great deal since May of 2015. Certainly not as much as we'd like, but it is still a big change. Just going by the haters on the PFT comment page has dropped significantly and those that remain are just trolling Pats fans. None even make even a pretense at a legitimate argument anymore and they usually draw 10-1 negative ratings

Let us not forget to credit Kraft for his part in this ongoing fiasco. His private and public support of the POS commissioner since 2007 which culminated in his pathetic capitulation speech to his brother owners is proof to the world of the validity of his special relationship with and the validity of the claims by Goodell.

His quick surrender and worse yet collaboration with Goodell & the 31 earned Kraft his Vichy Bob appelation.
Remember this surrender was when Brady was under constant fire, WAY before the NFPLA judicial victory and also way before the many articles that later criticized Goodell, the Wells report and the pseudo-science. Times have changed but Bob turtled when the incoming fire was the greatest and Brady had no allies.
