......and like in the space of 5 minutes my entire world turned upside down (sports -wise)
Now you know I don't usually start threads during the week, but for some reason I can't find the Manning HGH thread and I need a safe place to rant about a few things. You see that in those few moments on the road to the store, apparently I find that Chandler Jones is someone with a deep drug problem and Peyton Manning is apparently totally innocent of the HGH allegations charges. As you can see quite a juxtaposition in a very short time.
Well I get back in put away the groceries, and head to PFT to see what happened to Al Jazera that set Peyton free in the eyes of even the local media. Like I expected, right at the top of the scrolll is the article telling me that Al Jazera is going to suspend their operations in the US come April. Soon after is a quote by Ditka (that paean of journalistic wisdom) saying Al Jazera doesn't know crap. Even Florio comments that this must seem like a vindication for Manninng. He can still sue and get money, and ends the story with a Manning Comment that "I'm sure Al Jazera's readers will be devestated"
Well then I go "Wait a second", Where is the part where it says lAlJazera's story was factually wrong. A second reading proved to be equally fruitless. BECAUSE there is none. Our local guys keep refering to a NYT's story, but they only chronicaled that they are going out of business in the states. It stated NOTHING that their documentary wasn't accurate.
So in the REAL world nothing has changed. HGH WAS delivered to Manning's home. Manning doesn't deny it. In the upside down world today's sports journalism ESPN can cast aspersions on another news organization's accuracy with a straight face, and facts uncovered by a news group doesn't matter if they later go out of business.....even if the information is true.
In the mean time without a single thread of reasonable facts, Chandler Jones has a deep drug problem. Why? His brother has one, so it must be true. Totaly unfounded sources say so. And it COULD be true.
Again speculation being reported as fact, with only the minimum amount of disclaimers to cover their asses, but for the most part. Jones is now a drug addict, who couldn't stay away from the stuff at a critical time of the season. A guy the Pats will most likely get rid of at the end of the season. That is how Felger and Mazz are seeing it, and REPORTING it. It doesn't matter that totally it is unsubstantiated, third hand sources that are driving the story. They are going with it, and again, reporting it as FACT.
Thank you for your patience, I think you saved me from having my head explode. Now I can go on with my week knowing that I can avoid all the local media shows and football commentary since I know what will be said.
So to repeat - Peyton is cleared because a company is going out of business. Jones is a drug addict, because that is the rumor.
