Let me tell you about Shaq Mason...

The pre-draft Draftnik gurus had Tre Jackson as the top rated Guard in the Draft.

If they rated Shaq Mason at all, they said "...good college lid. Just too small and can't pass block in the pros..."

Actually, quite a few people in the draft forum loved Mason. Me, manx, and I believe @mayoclinic (who has gone into another long disappearance) all loved him. Not sure about OTG but I wouldn't be surprised if he did too.

Thanks for the mention, Bro, especially considering that I do most'f my writing elsewhere!!

Yeah, I was right on board along with the rest of y'all. This is what I wrote up:

Power: Magnificent. Phenomenal Drive Power & Anchoring Strength, both, exacerbated by his Squat, Toady Frame!!

Agility: Phenomenal. Tremendous Launch Velocity, extraordinary Fluidity, and explosive Acceleration.

Combat Skills: Mediocre because he's Raw in Pass Protection ~ the Yellow Jackets play the Triple Option Offense, which is dominated by the Run Game ~ but with potential for Excellence, for that already describes his Run Blocking.

Intangibles: Outstanding. Impressive Field Vision and phenomenal Motor. Will need to learn Pass Blocking, mind you!!

Run Blocking: Extraordinary. Phenomenal Power, excellent Combat Skills, tremendous Agility, and a sensational Motor!! I believe that Mason has the Power to demolish Defenders in a Power Scheme, the Fluidity to redirect both quickly and smoothly in any Scheme, and the Short Speed Acceleration to wreak havoc all over the Field of Battle!!

Pass Blocking: Deficient!! Yeah, he's gonna need a lot of Work on that!! Even so, Mason, a relative Novice to Pass Blocking when he arrived at Senior Bowl and took his lump, reportedly improved rapidly over the course of the week.

I gave'm a Warrior Grade and a 2nd/3rd Round Rank. Great Pick by Mad Bill!!

Zona's Words, as usual, are beneath Contempt.
So we should expect him to improve in the pass blocking? Great pickups for the o-line last draft.

I think he will lock down RG by the start of next season and will be huge in the resurgence of their run game. Undersized doesn't mastery of they play with strength, leverage, and greater athleticism, and this interior OL has That. Can't wait to see them next season.

I think he'll be the LG. Jackson seems like the RG of the future. IMO.

You spend a little too much time fantasizing about other's Loins, my friend.

When running literally with a figure of speech, one must wonder what the f*ck is in your head.

Most people here were wet in the loins over the small school kid and some about aj cann, but I don't recall much about mason

There's certainly no question what's in your head: Our Loins!!

This was not your first random and unprovoked reference to the crotches of dozens of men, Old Hoss. ;)

But, hey...I'm not judging anyone!! :D

again.....figure of speech......you're the one making literal meaning out of it......bothers you enough to reference recollections.....again, what's in your head? must be hitting close to home

Perenial probowler?
The line has the potential to be special in the coming years.
Keep in mind Solder isnt there and hes our best Offensive lineman.
If Stork can recover fully we will have a devestating run game for seasons to come.
Lets hope Dion Lewis has a full recovery.
A formation of White and Lewis in the backfield together would give defensive coordinators fits.

Yep

I think Vollmer has a couple more years left in him.

Solder is fine

Stork is fine.

Shaq is a stud. Health is clearly the concern here.

My impression is that folks are down in Tre Jackson. People might be comparing him to Shaq but I think his rookie year has been pretty good. Ive spot-focused on him and while he has made some mistakes, hes also had some very good plays and overall his play has been respectable. As long as he does what he is supposed to in the offseason he has pretty solid future ahead of him as RG on this team.

I'll be reading up on the 2016 picks on otgs website next year, after the selections are made. I am in self imposed exile from anything draft wise leading up to that farce.

Will not suffer the indignation of that cesspool and their fans. Especially being innocent from a federal court of law which makes it all the worse. As far as I'm concerned Brady and the Patriots had their days. 1. Winning sb 49. 2. Brady shoving it up The NFL's cram hole in court. 3. Praying for a sb50 victory and having the nazi fall on his sword after handing Brady the trophy.

2016 NFL round 1 is Goodell,Wells,Vincent and Pash day. They finally get to burn their witch at the stake and their isn't a damn thing anyone can do about it.

I think Pioli did a fine job but on the surface it seems Caserio is better at doing it.

Could be that BB has gotten better at it too.

Tough one to judge from the cheap seats.

Agreed on both parts (Caserio doing a fine job and maybe BB getting better), and it may be that Lombardi has helped out too, although his expertise seems to be more in evaluating current NFL players than college players in the draft.

It may be coincidence, but ever since Lombardi got here the Pats have been especially effective at "poaching" current NFL players off of other squads that end up being contributors. This year alone we have: Dion Lewis, Mike Williams, Justin Coleman, Akiem Hicks, Leonard Johnson, and Jabaal Sheard. Really that is a remarkable list of contributors that have been brought in, and almost no draft capital was given up (and that small draft capital may end up being made up in later compulsory picks).

Of course, BB is the one who deserves credit for bringing in top personnel people like Caserio and Lombardi, listening to what they have to say, and then using their input to form his own decisions. That may, in fact, be why BB has got better in his player personnel skills over the last few years. His excellent personnel skills aren't limited to players, IMHO those skills extend to management of his own front office subordinates like Caserio and Lombardi.

I can't think of one "draftnik" who had Jackson ranked as the #1 guard in the draft. This is your most straw man argument yet. I absolutely loved Mason and talked about him a lot.

I wasn't talking about our posters. Look at the Linde and PFW pre Draft pubs....

Hey Grid, where's your draft site? I lost the bookmark. Thanks.

I hadn't seen OTG's website before, it is fabulous. It will be my go-to draft website from now on.

Hey!! Thank you all ~ Brother Better for the Interest, Brother Husse for the Link, Brother Missile for the Visitation, and Brother Christopher for the kind and gracious Words!! And just so you know: I starting cranking out Scouting Reports the first Week of March, if I can stay on Schedule!! :D
