Random Patriots Thoughts That Don't Warrant A New Thread

So I had a thought this morning while watching NFL highlights as is my usual routine. I know we're all Patriots fans (for the most part) and this is going to come off as preaching to the choir, but I'll go ahead and say it anyway.

I was watching highlights of the Eagles and Saints and saw Drew Brees throwing a pick six, fumbling the ball away, and just stopped to think: there was a time where Brady, Manning, and Brees were the top quarterbacks. It was never a unanimous decision in the mid-2000's between Brady and Manning, and some even had Brees (I **** you not) over Brady when he was peaking at around 2009.

Yet, here we are, in 2015, and the more things change the more stay the same. Today's argument is Brady, Rodgers, Roethlisberger. Isn't that funny? Since 2003 or 2004 Brady has at least been in the argument for top 2 or 3 in the league. He vaulted to number 1 in 2007 and picked right back up from 2010 to today. Yet, while to some people (outside of 2007, 2010, and 2011 maybe) Brady has never been the best QB in the league, he still is in the conversation today. With whom? 38 year old Brady and 31 year old Aaron Rodgers are the consensus top two, though it depends who you ask as to who number 1 is. 33 year old Roethlisberger is number three. Old men Manning (39) and Brees (36) may not even crack the top 10 today.

Just rambling on here, I know. But it's funny to me that Brady is 38 and is still arguably the best QB in the league, while the others that at some point were projected to land higher on an all-time list before (Manning) are struggling to reach a 1:1 TD:INT ratio, and Rodgers is actually 31 and in his prime. Brady actually might still be in his prime too. Pretty damn good QB we have.

I had a random thought a few moments ago as well. If we go undefeated this season, that's 19 consecutive wins in a row. Win the divisional round - 20, AFC Championship - 21... our old record. So where would we beat that record and set a new one? Super Bowl 50.

That streak doesn't include post-season games. We won 21 regular season games in a row over two seasons.

Was watching the post-game locker room coverage. Kraft tells Gronk "good hands" cause of his onside kick recovery at the end. Gronk goes "Thanks, that's why I'm on the hands team, BAHAHA!!" What a freaking goofball he is. Love Gronk, hope he ends a 15 year career with all 15 of em spent as a Patriot

Allow me to add some of mine.

1 - Wes Welker was an incredibly good slot guy who could make yardage out of nowhere, but I don't think he was ever as good as Edelman is now. The same is true on punt returns.

2 - Danny Amendola is getting better. Every time I think of the cheap shot Emanuel Sanders took at DA because the Pats chose to sign him instead, all I can do is laugh.

3 - Well, if the refs are supposed to be taking games away from us per order of Goody and The Jets, then this next one will probably be the one. It will be interesting to see if any calls come from the NYFL that will affect the outcome. We KNOW who Fraudger is rooting for.

4 - The onside kick in the Indy game looked like it should have gone to them. Maybe if the NYFL had put in more cameras like BB suggested then they might have had enough of a view to overturn it.

5 - Rob Gronkowski is unfairly good. He's so good that the refs don't call even the most blatant penalties the defenders use on him, and he's still shattering TE records.

6 - One last thing on the Indy PuntBungle, DuncePunt, WhatTheChuck or whatever else you want to call it. I read that the team had actually practiced that for over a year. They should have it down by 2019.

One thing that I always think about, but never thought it warranted its own thread is if you spell Tom Brady's name backwards, it is Ydarb Mot which would be a great name for a Star Wars character. If you think long enough about it, it will blow your mind.

Whew! It was great to get that one off my chest.

On Point 4, the trick about the whole thing if I remember correctly (haven't seen the play again since watching it in real [drunk] time at the bar), is that there was some kind of pause at the bottom of the pile, then a ref signaled Pats football, THEN the ball kinda squirted out and was obviously recovered by Indy. But watching it live I remember saying "Nothing matters now" once the ref signaled NE football. I might be wrong on any of those counts, been four days since the game

Yes, I remember seeing the official signaling Pats ball. That made me feel at ease too. But then I saw the replay, and knowing that the NYFL is out to get us, I thought that one of Fraudger's or Kensil's stooges might have jumped in and told them to reverse it.

I remember telling everyone not to panic, "The ref already had signaled Patriots football before the Colts clearly recovered it, so it doesn't matter. Relax everyone!" but I too had a sense of worry not knowing what to expect with these jesters in the NFL front offices

So I'm watching Wheel of Fortune and the word puzzle is Pro Football hall of fame. That host Pat Sajak is like, "where is that? Is that in Canton, Ohio? Be sure to check out the deflated football exhibit"

What a hater!

I'll respond by using my name backwards. Y NOT? :D

I was at McD's today, and saw some lady come pretty close on 'Who wants be a Millionaire' to winning the full million; she chose to take the buy out near the end, but very exciting nonetheless.

Also thought the onside kick should have gone IND's way too, but wasn't that a point of emphasis (no pile on's) this season?

As to "win streaks", NFL will filter games however they want to pimp whomever they decide worthy of anointment in the weekly press release to the networks. This can be seen as true, as it these amazing records are then quickly forgotten and not covered again with nearly the same enthusiasm, the next time an "unworthy" team/player overtakes it.

Here's one that I almost started a thread about. Todd Bowles has a monkey on his back that he's been carrying around for four years. In 2011, he was made the head coach of the Dolphins for the last three games of the season and went 2-1. The one loss was to the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick.

Ironically, but not suprisingly, his two wins were over the Bills and the Jets.

It could be argued that Amendola's blocking may help us more in N. England than Sanders would have, but I'm not so sure that I'd necessarily be "laughing" at a guy who caught 101 passes last year and is currently on pace to break that mark for 2015.

Sanders would've been a nice player to have as well, and could've contributed more in the downfield passing game. Like I said, you'd be losing some physicality, which is very important, so that should be taken into account. That's where Amendola helps, in my opinion.

Winning streaks seem more important to Shula and the Dolphins, they need something to hold onto after years of mediocrity and false promises.... their spokesman Mercury Morris will soon be compelled to comment..

Although wins a a row are cool, Superbowl Championships are way more cooler..

A thought that does not warrant a thread is what are Bill's goals?? When will he retire.. he just passed Paul Brown on all time wins and is close to overtaking Curly Lambeau.. will he try to overtake Landry at 270 Total wins or is he content to be #4 all time.. currently he is at 238 total wins.. it is that inquiring minds thing.

Regarding the Indy game (in particular) and other games vs the Patriots. Teams have a "somewhat" limited number of trick plays they run (in a season) and it seems to me, that the Patriots get a disproportionate number used against them. Which means our team has to be better prepared than most.

The media loves talking about the obvious failures and how teams are clever, but more often than not the Patriots defeat the tricks and keep playing their game. While, the Patriots don't use that many and are very strategic and original with many of theirs (formations which is now being copied by teams).

There's a story here, but it'd be too pro-Patriot and reporters might have to dig too deep to develop the concept.

I used to think that BB would be winding down by now, but I think his priorities have changed a bit for several different reasons.

First, he's just simply in love with the game and with his routine. When the NBC ****s tried to bring it up last week he reminded them that he still has a nice life outside of football, and that he's able to do what he wants. To me, that may be a hint that we'll have another handful of years with him. He mentioned in the past that he didn't want to hit Marv Levy range, which I assume to be around 70 or so at the time the comment was made. I'm guessing another 3-4 years, which would take him to mid-late 60s. I think a man can gather s bit of a different perspective when that time actually comes, and he's in good shape and good spirits. I really think he enjoys what he does.

Since there's no cap on how much Kraft can offer, one has to think that he's getting paid some nice money. I'm guessing that it's in the 8+ million a year range, and that Kraft may even go a bit higher if need be.

Then there's the whole Stephen Belichick asst coach angle, where you see how much Bill enjoys teaching his son, and may continue to do so until he thinks he's more game day ready to handle more responsibilities. It's certainly something to consider.

The recent cheating allegations have had to fuel his inner fire in terms of not wanting to go out on that kind of note, and proving that his legacy is valid. I'm guessing that he wants to make another run or two at a 5th SB championship.
