This is entirely an opinion piece. A lot of this is not backed up by anything.
BB will never EVER admit it but he sees the early season as an extended pre-season and does not care about the first 4 games. He is perfectly fine going 2-2 here if he accomplishes his long term goals. BB came into this game with that mind and if we look at this game with that in mind we see a few interesting things.
Butler on Brown - All night 1 on 1 generally. This shows Bill's plan and hope for Butler. This was all about letting a young talented CB go against a top WR and get a lesson. Butler was so close and played well but just was a hair short except for a few times he fell for a move. I think assuming there are no must win games late this is what Bill plans to do for the early season. Last year he put Revis on the #2 and doubled the #1 for the most part. That made sense. Revis/Browner are what they are. They were not going to improve. May as well implement your main plan and get this use to it ASAP. I think this game shows at least the majority of early games Butler will go 1 on 1 vs the top WRs to try to get him as good as possible as fast as possible. BB wants to see come playoffs if he cane turn him into a high level #1 CB
Branch/Siliga - They did not play much. I feel again this is BB wanting to give Brown/Easley/Grissom as many looks as possible in the early season. They did not change personnel except for goal line really. I could go on about a few other things on D about young players but i feel it is pretty minor and these main points speak for what BB hope to do early.
Offense is exactly the opposite. BB wanted to get the starters out there and practice what he plans to be (minus Blount) the offense as it will be in the post season. This served as the "game 3 of person" for the offense. BB rolled out the main things he plans to use. We saw them use the 2 TE set spilt wide. It proved to be virtually unstoppable. The 4 TE set was rolled out. That worked too. Gronk and Edelman and Lewis were all given a ton of snaps and work. This is how those 3 will be used come playoff time and how it will look (though there was some sloppiness that will need to be cleaned up but that is too be expected).
It reminded me a lot of the Gronk/Edelman/Vereen usage vs Seattle and that is no coincidence. I highly doubt he will see Edelman get 10 catches a game too often from here on in the regular season. This was simply a case of BB letting them all stretch their legs and getting a feel for what they will do so they will be ready to ramp it back up again come a few key games in the regular season and post season.
