NE trades for TE Asante Cleveland from 49ers

Devey may work with Sackorpick behind since he can scramble. Plus his experience here will help them. He was a big risk to brady.

Hey, I'd trade Jordan Devey for a One Game Parking Pass....so to get an actual JAG with potential for him is amazing.

I think if anything, Bill regrets letting Tim Wright go so early. Can never have enough depth in this league, case and point here.

I dunno, but the fact that he was released so early is a sign of an issue that Belichick isn't losing sleep over.

I think one of the few cases where he might wish he "could have that back" was when he tried to sneak Lee Smith and Will Yeatman onto the PS, and then they both got claimed off waivers.

Didn't Devey line up at the TE position during the preseason game? I thought I remember the officials announcing him as being eligible. With Chandler being injured and not playing and Gronk getting few snaps they were a little thin at the TE position. At least the trade fills a need for now. So is the Jake Bequette experiment at TE over?

He's injured.

Can anyone explain more about what Asante Cleveland can offer to the team?

From scouting reports, college stats and 5 minutes of research, he appears to be nothing more than a camp body.

Why is this a mystery? JB is hurt, Chandler is not 100%. You need bodies to take snaps in camp and in Pre season games. You want to keep Gronk fresh and minimize his exposure. Plus as mentioned if they are thinking about a Mathis move, cutting Hooman would free up 1.4

The prevailing sentiment is more amazed at his magic tricks as upon arrival he sent the revolving door out the revolving door.

Bill is bringing him in to do some advanced scouting on the turf conditions at Levi Stadium. Just more cheating by The Patriots who are known to use a nefarious "preparation" scheme.

He's a true ****roach. Not much value, kind of upsetting to see on the field or in your bathroom, and apparently it takes a lot to kill/get rid of him.

Not exactly the impact trade of Logan Mankins for Tim Wright that we had last year around this time.

Competition for Hoomanauwai as a blocking TE.

If Cleveland can show as much as Hoomanauwai in the blocking department the rest of camp then Pats could free up $1.4m by cutting him.

Turn around and use some of that for Mathis.

You might be right. Just read one of the rumors in the Mathis thread.

The trade reinforces my belief that Hooman is on his way out because they can save around $1.4M if they cut him.
We only save $585K by releasing Hooman.

CLEVELAND puts on a SHOW this weekend. Sorry couldn't help myself.

The best news is we don't have to worry about our qb now if or when Devey is in there. Frankly, I'm amazed we were able to get anything at all back for him.
I know right? I saw "OL Jordan Devey traded to..." and I was like WTF? Did someone in San Fran owe BB a favor or what?

But really, I feel like the team is a little thin at Guard right now. If Jackson or Mason get hurt, who's left? Just Kline? Making a move for Mathis makes sense.

Workout Numbers:

6'5" 261
4.78 40
20 reps @ 225
4.45 20yd shuttle
7.33 3-cone

Anyone know anything about him? What type of TE is he? Big bodied move guy, another inline blocker? Doesn't seem too physically gifted but I'm only going off numbers, never heard of the guy.

Loyko says we were high on him as a UDFA and offered a bigger UDFA deal to him.

He went to U-Miami. Didn't have a lot of catches, though he has huge hands (10 1/4") and a long wingspan (82 1/2). So, I'm guessing he's more of a blocker with potential upside in the receiving game depending on what he's been working on.
