Interesting little tidbit.

God would we LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wouldn't you? The NFL has played ESPN like a fiddle. It's great this is being talked about now, but it took the emails from the Pats to do it. What does that say about the media in general?

It is pretty funny, and awkward, to see the idiots at ESPN ignore the elephant in the room whenever they talk about deflategate issues.

Biased. Compromised. Agenda-driven. Puppets. Unfair and unbalanced.

More likely afraid of angering the NFL.

The lawyer says that ESPN needs support from the source for any change in the original report.

What we don't know is the internal discussion inside ESPN pertaining to asking the NFL to support the retraction.

Mort may or may not know and if tells the truth or is learned that he lied to Dino, that would be disastrous for the network and the NFL.

Instead of the Patriots suing, could this be setting the stage for a McNally and/or Jastremski lawsuit?

The Patriots would ESPN if Mort revealed his source? That doesn't make sense to me.

They may be afraid of a Tom Brady lawsuit, and they arguably should be. IMHO, one of the toughest problems with a defamation lawsuit is proving that the statement itself is false. In this case, the "11/12 were 2 PSI low" statement is proven to be absolutely, 100% false.

Be aware I am a dangerous combination of a highly biased fan with no education or experience in the law.... but the more googling I do about this, the more it seems to me that when a reporter publishes something from an anonymous, source, they tend to own that comment moreso than if it was sourced. ESPN may indeed have some liability.

I think what happened is ESPN's lawyers told everyone to just shut the heck up until they decide how to proceed.

Two things I think NFL* fans everywhere would cheer.

1) The current NFL* Omissioner being fired.

2) ESPN being sued by the Pats.

well, I find it hard to believe the pats would sue espn, but I did notice 'damage to our brand' about 10x in that e-mail correspondence.
at the very least they were waving the stick

btw, isn't kraft the lead guy on the committee that negotiates these espn contracts?
