Patriots sign Derek Cox

So put that together with the Patriot's well-known ability to coach-up underperforming corners. Oh, wait...

No kidding....Covering a 14 year span, you can count the number of corners who were washed out somewhere else and produced here on one finger.

O-T-I-S.

So listen to the guy who wrote an article below. Here's only part of it, But it's the part that tells you about our dealing with Cox. Telesco took a huge loss and we're still bashing him over that FreeAgent Bust of a signing

Benched several times in favor of fringe roster players, Cox was due $4.25 million as part of a four-year, $20 million contract signed last March. General manager Tom Telesco will end up shelling out $10.25 million in guaranteed money for 11 Cox starts.

It's especially telling that Cox was unceremoniously dumped by a team in dire need of cornerbacks this offseason.

Maybe this is not a good signing and he won't make a difference. But hearing YOUR opinion, in particular, is frankly, worthless. You must have HATED Super Bowl 49.

1/21/14:
"Negative - it will be Denver again (if Manning is still there) plus Indianapolis will probably be ahead of the Patriots....Pats will do their usual sign over the hill 30+ year old free agents and cut or IR 90% of them and then the draft will yield perhaps one guy who can make plays...."

2/24/14:
"If Kraft wasn't so cheap they'd have another super bowl."

2/28/14:
"I say Krafty Bob sells the team before he spends $150M on player salaries....as you know, judging from interviews Krafty's content with making the semi finals and being "in contention" every season...he has his three trophies and the lemmings keep paying $50 to park, paying for the most expensive tickets in the league, while Krafty Bob pockets every last nickel and counts it just like Ebeneezer Scrooge. As long as the Pats have Brady and Belichick and Buffalo, NYJ, and Miami remain 5-8 win teams Krafty Bob knows he can stiff the fans with second rate free agents and draftees from Rutgers....because those AFC East titles mean so much..."

3/12/14:
"You mean the Patriots, who haven't won a SB in a decade despite having the best coach and qb in the league, and who's owner routinely nickels and dimes his way to free agents, draft picks, and his own players? That team????"

8/7/2014:
"This is tough to watch...I knew brady wasn't playing but I had no idea half the other starters weren't playing either...ZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
nothing good has come out of this game."
(Ahem....That game was the first appearance - playing more than half the game - of Malcolm Butler. And anyone who actually watched that game came away knowing the kid was making the team).

9/11/2014:
"MIN 31
NE 24

Rinse, wash, repeat fom Miami game - too many jags and udfa on both lines as cassell has all day to throw, Peterson gets 120 and Patterson gets 110 & 2 td and belichick gazes upon all the flotsam and jetsam he acquired trading out of the spot where coraderrle Paterson, a game changer, was drafted...."

9/14/2014:
"The game has clearly passed belichick by...why else is the pats defense annually so horrible? ????"

10/1/2014:
"Pretty soon krafty bob is going to have the embarrassment of having his teams' games blacked out...because if u think the Pats will sell out every game next year if they finish 8-8, 9-7 (if someone thinks they're better than that I have some Florida swampland to sell ya). This team has the look of 99 second half when they couldn't protect bledsoe. A 9-7/8-8 finish will have about 10-15% nonrenewal season tickets and krafty will jave to work awfully hard to get those tix sold...maybe he'll have to resort to having rhe local broadcaster bail him like nbc did years ago when the pats had decent teams...GO PATS...oh and krafty, spend some of Jonathan's inheritance on players that can play football"

10/2/2014:
"CIN 33
NE 13

Mod Edit: For the second straight week, this is a reminder that this thread is for a prediction of the score only.
Please leave the editorializing to other threads on the game or specific subjects.

Thank You."

10/3/2014:
"R.e. playoffs...lets not forget the pats already have 2 conference losses and that will come into play for tie breakers. I don't see them being much better than 6-6 or 7-5 in the conference and that won't do it...if they lose Sunday they're really behind the 8 ball tiebreaker-wise, not to mention they'd now lose head to head w Kansas city and Cincinnati. .."

10/5/2014:
"Belichick has destroyed this team and I have no clue why. Releade of t Kelly makes no sense and made the team worse, trading mankins made rhe team worse, going into kc w 3 receives made the team worse...this team is full of jags and (entire offensive line) and "decent" players who lack consistent big play impact (mayo, mccourty, edelman, chandler jones), and guys who wouldn't be playing on other teams (hoomanawanui, ninkovich, chung). of The two impact players one is being used in a confounding way (revis) and the other is certainly not 100%. couple all this with a 37 year old shell shocked qb who cant throw past 10 yards and you have an at best mediocre club.
im really sick of the coach's act and head scratching decisions...they haven't won it all in 10 years amd they've gotten blown out of the playoffs the last two seasons...fix it bill or get him gone krafty.."

10/5/2014:
"3 & out on first drive boo birds will be out in full force and justifiably so..."

Gasbag.

.
Cool you went through my post history... And I think I've been proven right r.e. Krafty Bob given his taking an enema from Goodell and smiling and nodding the whole way through and not sticking up for his players coaches or fans....but go right ahead and copy/paste heat of thd moment kneejerk posts from a frustrated fan...oh & I LOVED SB 49...just didn't like Kraft's affinity for a Goodell torpedo in the arse

Context is everything, kiddo.

Just enlightening the readers about the source of the gasbaggery they are reading. ;)

I actually like we're doing at corner. At least the guys they've brought in have size and athleticism.

I hate what they are doing at corner and I suspect once the season starts, you will too

Hey, if Ray Clayborn wants to stop losing NE HOF votes, he's just gonna have to EARN it by coming back for a few more years........

I think 4 pages is probably too much attention for this signing. Clearly this is a long shot signing for a player who has good physical talent but has seemed to have lost his love for the game

That's a phrase we often use very casually, but the league is so competitive that in order to play at a level that keeps you in the league, you HAVE to give it your all. Physical skill can only carry you so far. Focus, effort and intensity are often the real difference makers and why some first round players fail, while some UDFA's thrive.

If his year out of the league restarts Cox's motor, then this will be remembered as an excellent signing, HOWEVER history tells us that it is rare that a player with Cox's career history makes the kind of turnaround that has him making the team.

Someone wisely said earlier that there will be no middle ground for Cox. He will wind up either being a starter or released in camp, with the latter being the more likely result. Definitely worth the shot though.

I think Belichick is doing the yard sale and antique hunting version of football. Trying to find something valuable or useful amongst all the junk that's available.

I was thinking Building 19.

When you lived off-campus , you just needed stuff to sit on to get you thru.

Lol, our furniture was from milk carton crates that we stole from local stores. That brings back old memories :)

We bought this old couch....I swear a family of rats lived it

It's either one of the most unknown stable of corners in the league or one of the worst. Take your pick. Either way, I don't believe you can definitively make the statement that they're good.

Unfortunately, he paid close to retail prices for a couple of broken pieces while tossing out
a couple of the workable ones.

Ahh..good old fashioned milk cartons......multi functional as a Seat, Book Cases or Table.... :D

So what's his body fat percentage? Ha!

Most folks here think that Roberts is a lock to beat out Cox for a roster spot. News at 11.

Personally, I'm not even sure that Belichick will carry a 5th CB on the 53 unless someone steps up in camp. There are plenty of candidates: Roberts, Swanson, Green, and JAG free agents like Cox. Of course, a JAG is exactly what one expects as the 5th, emergency CB. Wilson might even be the 9th DB.
