I don't see much action before the draft, other than perhaps us getting an additional draft pick. I suppose we could see a trade for a corner or for a guard. We also might sign Connolly.

I guess it's five weeks of looking at potential draft choices. :)

I could see us adding a veteran OL and/or a DL, maybe a CB too. Nothing substantial though.

We'll sign players to fill all the holes before the draft ...

Bill usually does to keep his drafting options wide open.

The day after the draft, dozens of un-drafted free agents will be in town.
Plus (mostly obscure) players will come and go during camp.

With 75 players signed and 9 draft picks, that only leaves 6 spaces. Not sure there will be lots more "holes" being filled. Not sure how many 'holes' there are left (particularly since we don't know how the draft will shape out position wise or how the vet CB shotgun blast will shake out).

You could count the remaining 3 FAs as a sense of the holes. Ridley has been addressed between gray, gaffney, cadet. I could see Connolly and or Aiken being re-signed before the draft (or other alternatives at those positions), but BB already signed his backup LS and I think connolly's replacement comes in the draft.

So I think mgteich had it right. do you really want to sign 15 guys now and have to make a whole bunch of cut down decisions before you even see what the guys have to show on practice field.

I expect more "action" around the draft and during the June cuts... not as much now.

Isn't this the time of year where they sign an offensive lineman who then gets cut the 1st day of camp?

Seriously I would expect a few more JAGS to trickle in so they can present a roster with at least minimal coverage across all units, this will be supplemented in the draft followed by free agents (both veteran and rookies).

we've already signed 3 CB, so I don't se anymore being signed, Who is out there anyway. Nor do I see se us signing any OL/DL players before the draft, because that's where I see the emphasis of this draft being made. I can see us pick 2 OLmen and 2 DLman with our first 5 picks. So why resign Connolly when you could find a replacement in the draft. It would be smarter to sign him AFTER the drat and only if you aren't sure you got the guy you wanted in the draft.

You sign Connolly for short dollars if you can because he can play G/C and would be better depth than Jordan Devey or Chris Barker. He earned 3 million last season. That's too much given his age and projection to being a backup/utility player.

I'd be excited if we could bring him back, because I never want to see Jordan Devey on the football field again.

The draft is April 30th? Well, unless I do something really stupid... or my wife unexpectedly goes away for four weeks... then yes... I do indeed expect some action before the draft. :D

Of course, the odds on the former happening are about 50-50.

I don't see Belichick being confident that he has drafted a starting LG, backup LG, and backup C in the draft.

Let's be real! I'm fine with Stork, Wendell and Fleming (or even Cannon) on the right side.

Competitors for LG and backup C (our current #7, #8, and #9 OL's)
--------------------------------------
Devey
Kline
Barker
(Hauptmann)
==================
My preference would be a veteran, a top draftee, and a later draftee. I'm fine with two OG's in the first 101. So, I would sign Connolly who would be expected to be the Game Day backup inside, with Cannon as the backup OT). If the top draftee is not ready to start, then Connolly can start at LG. Also, we would have a backup center.

IMHO, Connolly is extremely valuable to us as a veteran backup who can start at three positions, and be the Game Day backup.

Should we NOT want to replace Devey, Kline and Barker with a veteran and two draftees?

It is boring now to say the least. We went through the CBs that are at least possible to add unless BB is all done with that.

Trades might be being discussed at the meetings I am sure.

Sherman, Petersen nor Haden are walking through the door. The only possibility might be Leon Hall but he is 30. The Bengals have Kirkpatrick and invested in first rounder Dennard last year.

It's not boring to discuss possibles.

The deal that intrigues me would be with the Rams. They do not know what to do with WR Tavon Austin. They are not happy with his first round selection. It is a lot their fault. He has been totally misused to this point.

They are also not pleased with the gambling ways of talented CB Janoris Jenkins. Samuel comes to mind and he worked out OK. They have Trumaine Johnson they like but both contracts (Jenkins) are up after 2015. Jenkins makes big plays but does not have the discipline Fisher wants.

So in the end I (that is my opinion) think that a package of Austin and Jenkins might be possible.

The Rams are seeking a RT. Barksdale is a FA they are considering resigning him even at 30.

The Pats just upped Cannon but Flemming has out played him. They pay him starter money. He might be a good fit with them and he has starts unlike a Draft pick.

This is just a thought so do not go down hill on this.

Would you trade Cannon and a pick, say out 2nd rounder for Jenkins and Austin?

Any flaws in my thoughts as to why Fisher would not be interested?

We know you might be "renting" Jenkins (been there).

We know BB LIKED Harvin's play and Austin is similar. A dynamic playmaker under McDaniels might be fun along with Gronk, JE and LaFell.

I would enjoy that trade.
