Didn't see a thread about it so figured I would start one. It's reported from several sources that the Pats received the top overall compensatory pick in the third round (#97), as well as a seventh round selection (#253). This brings their stable to...

1-32, 2-64, 3-96, 3-97, 4-101, 4-131, 6-177, 7-219 and 7-253, for nine total picks. While comp picks can't be traded, the others can, so there's a fair amount of ammo if the Pats want to jump up and grab a guy in the second or third. Otherwise, they'll be taking a lot of players in the first four rounds, which is a good spot to be in with the draft depth this year.

I'll leave you with a nugget from our favorite reporter Benny...

#Patriots have 5 picks in the top 100. That doesn't seem fair

Belichick replaces Talib with Revis. Wins a Super Bowl. And, gets a 3rd rounder!! Do you realize how silly it is to criticize him as a GM?
Plus he will pick up another third rounder next year for losing Revis this year.

So your CB wants BIG money. What do you do? Pay him? No way! Let him walk and sign the top CB in the NFL for one year at a discount, win a Super Bowl, pick up a 3rd, and if this guy wants big money too, let him go and pick up another 3rd. It's not always pretty, but it's damn efficient.

I'd have rather kept Revis. But, that's another story. Giving an older player like him isn't consistent with our policy.

Not a bad haul. Plus we still move up when we swap with Jets. :D
I can't wait to hear the haters cry when the Pats pick up even more selections from Tampergate and maybe even the sting operation nonsense...

"They already had 9 picks!! 5 in the top 101!!! You're going to give them even MORE??? Not fair!!!!!!!!!!!!"

We have TB's 4th from the Mankins trade. 5 in top 101.

Holy. We will have three picks over a 5-6 pick span at the end of round three to the beginning of round four.

#97

As to Volin, he can't count and has never heard of comp picks

I really hope some of these picks are traded forward to 2016, to get full value out of them. Otherwise, we'll have a quality rookies in Training Camp that we subsequently lose on waivers.

.......i hope we dont waste these picks.
#inbillitrust

pick up some guys who can contribute and we'll repeat!

That's some dangerous flexibility for one of the best "Draft Chess Masters" in the game......

Now we just need whatever the Rats pick will be to see were we stand....not having overhyped expectations here but the league is going to make an example of them because of the serial nature/end result and absolute spitting in the face of the rules. Anything lenient will just broadcast to other teams "keep on doing it because there is no real penalties"......I mean who wouldn't risk tampering with Revis for the cost of a 4th rounder or so

Looking across the league, you can see the pattern of other teams that also really use this as a resource:

Since #NFL compensatory picks began in 1994, #Ravens have gotten the most, with 44. #Packers have second-most, with 35.

Baltimore got 3
G.B. got 2
K.C. (w/Dorsey, who's from the Packers organization) got 4

Jets fans are going to be pissed when the Patriots add the swapped pick to the list of draft bonuses for N.E....

That's a really sweet cluster of picks for this draft. They can stay put or move up if they want to. And that isn't counting the #6 overall, which makes it even sweeter....

And as it stands right now, the Patriots are in line to pick up three compensatory draft picks in 2016:

- a 3rd for Darrelle Revis
- a 6th for Vince Wilfork
- a 6th for Shane Vereen

The other additions/departures cancel out.

That 3rd rounder is nice. As others have stated - it'd be great to have an all-world player instead, but since NE lost the Revis sweepstakes, a pick this high is nothing to scoff at. Doubly so when you consider the loss of Talib lead to the signing of Revis.
