I recall being very apprehensive when we let go Woodhead since we had our 2nd round pick Vereen waiting in the wings for the 3rd down RB/WR hybrid role that we've always had since Faulk had shown its value. And while Vereen has been serviceable, I still felt that Woodhead would routinely come with clutch plays, converting 3rd and 15s on screen plays that he had no business converting into first downs.

We refused to match the 2 year $3.5m offer that Woodhead got from Chargers at that time. And I have no idea what the Giants are thinking giving Vereen a 4 year $15m offer. It almost seems that the biases of draft positions still persist even after your on field performances. Woodhead is considered to have done very well by making the team and getting a tidy contract. While Vereen was a 2nd round pick and always supposed to have taken the mantle and hence feels the Giants contract is justified.

I understand that since we had Vereen on contract already that keeping Woodhead was maybe not an option, since they both couldn't get the snaps. But looking back I feel Woodhead was (and frankly still is) the superior player and was wondering how everyone else felt.

So Woodhead vs Vereen, who would you rather have at their current contracts. Woodhead was extended for 2 years for $7.5m and Vereen got 4 years for $15m. Which player/contract would you take. I say Woodhead any day.

I always liked Vereen, but I wish we never let Woodhead go.

I will take Woodhead just based on the fact it will drive the Jets crazy

woodhead was better. more clutch. vereen tends to fall down on first contact alot. he had a nice sb but imo was a very pedestrian 3rd down back.

Woody > "Ben" (RB skills)
Both too expensive vs how BB values the position.
All said I fully support the players taking the FAR greater $ than the Pats would offer.

Woody is a far better run and bit worst receiver. Also not sure Woody wanted to come back to compete with Vereen.

I think overall, Woodhead was a better player. Vereen was definitely the better receiver, not even close. But Woodhead ran hard through the tackles and gave us some BIG runs.

Woodhead was targeted 84 times and had 76 catches in 2013. He was much more sure handed than Vereen who had several notable drops in his time here.

Woodhead the better runner...

Vereen the better receiver

And besides...Woodhead is an easier name to spell :)

Ever since I was a little kid, I would remember every player's name and the number that went with it. Just kind of always been my basic idea of what a fan should be at a minimum. I can't even start to read a thread that won't even make an effort to get half of that right.

Loved me some Woodhead. Wish he was still here cuz that little guy could play some football!

I think both of them are OK decent NFL caliber 3rd down backs. Nothing extraordinary. Not ready for Canton, but solid, serviceable backs. Vereen's probably a little more talented. Woodhead is probably a little more scrappy. Both are replaceable. I don't think you get involved in top-dollar free agent bidding for either of them.

Am I the only one who thinks "Biffins" is deliberately starting the most idiotic threads possible?
He's our NYC troll .............

I think that Woodhead was definitely better. He had a real knack for finding the extra yards, and Vereen really struggles with that. Both as a receiver and as a runner.

Ivan gave you a 'dislike'. So I'm curious as to whether he disagrees with your stats (are your stats right?), or the fact the Vereen did have some notable drops?

Ivan is vindictive and supposed to have me on ignore per moderator request because he once disliked 76 of my posts in under an hour as a form of retaliation so I'm not the least bit surprised that his immature antics are continuing to take place. I have him on ignore though so I didn't actually know until you pointed it out. Truthfully I don't much care, he is not exactly a expert on football.

Nice research. That is impressive. Vereen could also line up on the outside and be a deep threat, which is some nice versatility.

Overall, I liked both of them a lot. If I had to vote it would be Woodhead by a hair but wouldn't argue if someone prefers Vereen.
