Why have we heard nothing about Wilfork?

You mean when he took a team friendly deal with incentives?

Team friendly?

You need to do your homework, if you Think that was a team friendly deal.

If Vince is cut this year, he will not get half of his current 2015 contract.
If I was going to guess what he would get on the open market, it would be less than 1/3 of his curent deal.

Next time you watch the replay of the Super Bowl, watch Wilforks pass rush on the last drive. It proves he is
Now a two down DL at best.

Denver will pay the piper later...and Pay a ton will keep his salary where it is IMHO.....He's no Brady ( In more ways than one) :)

I just have no idea which way this is going to go? Revis to me is far and away the number 1 priority.
But I have no clue as to what the Pats will do? You just don't lose a once in a generation player like Revis.
His value and impact are so critical. Both in games and and in practice. In the end its up to Revis. Does he join a team likely rebuilding on a max deal or does he take good money and build on his legacy? Its a no brainer to me. The back drop to this impending decision is that he has always been a mercenary where the highest dollar has won his services.

McCourty is a nice player that has really solidified the safety position. And we hear he might test free agency as well? I have no idea what is going on here?

And then there's Vince, who has long been one of my favorite all time Pats. Outright cutting him solves a lot of cap issues and gives us some real flexibility. What his absence will mean inside the locker room is something I cannot quantity.

Thought word was that he was restructuring.

In any case, Denver's exaggerated cap balance took a 13 million hit when they tagged DT today. They've still got Clady and JT and others to pay, too. They're not in great shape, but neither are the Pats.

If the Pats don't pick up the Revis option and cut Wilfork, they'll be about 15 million under the cap, but much of that will go to sign Reivs and McCourty.

He's gone, sooner or later. Everyone in the NFL is gone, sooner or later. Its the nature of salary cap football. Drew Bledsoe is gone. Ty Law is gone. Tedy Bruschi is gone. Willie McGinnest is gone. Rodney Harrison is gone. Troy Brown is gone. And Vince Wilfork will be gone.

From the looks of it barring some very creative manuever we're going to have to cut him. Hope I'm wrong. Would love to see VW retire a Patriot.

Denver may have missed their best shot at a title. Might lose J Thomas and Potroast which would be huge. Not to mention Wes is toast now. Going to be tough for Seattle too when they pay Wilson and from the sounds of it Lynch might have a big contract too.

There's nothing stopping Wilfork from retiring as a Patriot. He even got his one extra sentimental overpaid year (with a SuperBowl ring!). Storybook ending to a terrific career.

Good point, but it can't be worse than how the players felt when Mankins was traded.

The players know this is a business.

Can Brady help us here again? How much will he be making next year?

And all of those players still seem to hold the Pats' organization in high regard.

I love Wilfork, but he is not what he was....don't want to see him go, but it would make sense. Hate to say it, as I love the guy.

I'm more concerned with the nearly $10M in cap hits between Amendola and Arrington. Those 2 would be the first ones to go if I was looking for money, and Wilfork either needs to restructure or go, he needs be realistic he is not worth that much money and he knows it, on the market he would maybe get a 2 year $5-6M deal at best.

Cutting Amendola saves $1.6M, and Arrington only saves $865k ($1.6M if his cap hit is spread over 2 years as a post-June 1 cut).

While I agree that neither's performance justifies their cap hit, unfortunately most of that is sunk cost. In Amendola's case, you could save a bit of money by cutting him, but then you'd have to start talking about replacing him. It would take more than $1.6M in new cap money to get a replacement that's at all close to him in ability, and that's without regard for chemistry/experience in the offense.

OTOH, in Arrington there just isn't much money to be saved. I think his real worth is a bit more than the Pats would get back by cutting him. He's definitely not worth $4.6M, but most of that money is sunk cost anyway.

Re: Wilfork, I'm still hoping that he'll just agree to take a 66%-ish paycut, but realistically I don't see that happening so I assume he'll be cut.

What do you save by cutting them? Ain't nowhere near $10 million.

Panic all around. Lmao.

You're right, that makes little sense. The Patriots are looking at a series of bigger moves and i'd be shocked
If they weren't in full control of what they are trying to get done. Amendola is obviously looking at a restructure but I think that he showed chemistry with Brady and the ability to make plays for them when it really matteredHe also provides insurance for Edelman, who while tough as they come ends up paying for it. And he is their KR. So overall the idea of cutting him to save 2 million doesn't make sense as his replacement will cost more.

If the Patriots make a wrong move ...

We'll be hearing from Bianca before we hear it from Schefter ... bet on it.

Due to his status on the team I do not expect Bill to play rough with Wilfork.

maybe they aren't going to restructure his contract

It seems like he wants to keep playing based on his comments.
