Patrick Chung signs 3 yr Extension, Bolden 2 Yr Extension

From Ridley's perspective, I have a hard time seeing the Pats as an attractive spot. He can go to Indy and be their best RB day 1 (on a team that wants to run the ball, just can't) or somewhere like Dallas if jerry chooses Dez over Murray. If he signs here for cheap, great. But why compete with Blount/Gray? I think we could get outbid.

Vereen is just aggravating at times. I think Woodhead is a more consistent player. Not sure what my ceiling would be on a Vereen contract.

I agree with you on Ridley. He's better off going somewhere else and getting the bigger payday than he would get from a Patriots FO that is pretty stacked at RB.

Vereen, while fast, has a lot of drops on the screens and doesn't have the wiggle of a Woodhead. Shane is more of an in-line runner. I'd sign him, but not if he's looking for big money. He's one of those players who's reputation around the league is bigger than the reality of here. I see him going elsewhere and getting paid big.

I think the Pats have what they need at RB, and would like them to concentrate on OL and WR.

That is true. I just have a soft spot for Ridley so it's more of a hope than an expectation.

Me too. Ridley took a lot of crap in NE but he is a good player and a better kid.

It's just better for him to go somewhere else where there is not as much depth at RB and he would be more appreciated.

I'm ok with the extension. However Revis and McCourty needs to be resigned for this to work. Otherwise Chung will be out of position and exposed again. If the best available player at #32 is a safety I hope we take him. I still feel we need better safety depth. Although the #1 priority is o-line for next season in my opinion.

RBs signed through 2015:

Blount
Gray
Bolden
White
Gaffney
Lewis

Anyone think we may stand pat and just roll with that group? Blount has a 4.6 career ypc 700 carries into his career. He's an above average starting RB who's success is very dependent on the OL. An improved OL could make Blount a 1200 yard type back.

Gray is a mystery, but seems to be an NFL caliber backup atleast. Bolden is a ST guy, can catch the ball, and is a RB4. The only player missing is the Faulk/Woodhead/Vereen. I guess the other 3 RBs + a UDFA could compete for that role.

I would sign Woodhead for cheap money and roll with:

Blount
Woodhead
Gray
Bolden
Gaffney/White/Lewis/UDFA

I've been going back and forth on a 2nd-3rd rd RB, but a 2nd-3rd rd OL will help Brady and Blount more.

Just as an FYI, according to this link, Woodhead's under contract through 2016. http://espn.go.com/blog/san-diego-chargers/post/_/id/5863/contract-details-for-danny-woodhead

I honestly am surprised at the Bolden extension. The guy is a penalty machine on special teams.. Yes, he had the one blocked punt that put SD's punter out for the season, but that's been it. Otherwise he's been wildly inconsistent and mediocre..

I would have rathered them use the money to extend Ayers since I can see Ayers taking over for Ninkovich in a year or two..
There have been two accepted penalties called on Bolden this year.

The question is, who's going to sign him coming off an ACL.

Probably already mentioned but I believe that Chung being resigned makes DMC resigning all the more likely.

DMC can play without Chung, we know that, but Chung can't play without DMC, and the team probably knows that. Harmon can't replace DMC.

First of all, I applaud the optimism.
Second, I agree - if the best available player at #32 is a safety, I hope they take him.
If the best available player at #32 is OL, I hope they take him.
If the best available player at #32 is DL, I hope they take him. And so forth.

Yea he has 3 on the year.

He plays on all four units and backups RB and FB positions. He provides very good depth.

His contract is short money and very "cuttable" in case hes beaten out in camp.

He actually has more than 3 penalties on the year. He has like 5 or 6. Just because the NFL didn't attribute them properly doesn't mean they didn't happen..

Bolden is not a back-up FB. That is just wishful thinking on your part.

Bolden has been mediocre this year. Mediocre = average.. He's had 2 good plays and that's about it.

There were people who were surprised he made the team. He probably could have made the Pro Bowl as a ST guy if there were more spots for them.

Bolden isn't even close to being a Pro-bowl level special teamer. this is wishful thinking on your part..

He caused a key fumble on a KR, and has shown up on all 4 units all year.

Never a question, IMO. BB loves D-Mac and there just aren't many great safeties in the league.

DaBruinz, why do I get the sense you don't like Bolden ;)

There have been 5.. 2 of which were incorrectly attributed via the NFL stats pages..

Seriously, what? o_Oo_O

I have $20 million. Just because the government doesn't recognize my counterfeit bills, doesn't mean I don't have it.

Just think that people are giving him more credit than he is do. He's a mediocre player who has had a couple of good plays this season..

Shmessy - The Refs have gotten numbers wrong on numerous occasions. That has happened to Bolden's benefit. That doesn't mean he didn't commit the penalty. He did.. The refs just called the wrong number.

And he has signed for base salaries of $660K in 2015 and $760K in 2016.

He knows the system, plays 4 ST units, is in his 3rd year and is dependable.

What's your beef?

Jeff Howe @jeffphowe
Brandon Bolden note: He was gonna be a restricted free agent this offseason. Pats saved $315,000 in cash in '15 by avoiding RFA process.
