BB generally hates to hire someone from the outside to be a coordinator. This means either he promotes from within or we go without an official one this year most likely if he walks.

Assuming we do promote from within lets look at who is the most likely options. (Josh is also the QB Coach)

Dave DeGuglielmo - OL coach - Years on the Patriots - 1 - Total years of NFL experience - 10
Ivan Fears - RB Coach - Years on the Patriots - 18 - Total years of NFL experience - 24
Chad O'Shea - WR Coach - Years on the Patriots - 6 - Total years of NFL experience - 11
Brian Daboll - TE Coach - Years on the Patriots - ? - Total years of NFL expereince - 15
My guess is this.

You will want to keep Dave as the OL coach to keep some consistency there cause it is only his 1st year installing a new system. Fears is probably not going to do it either as after so long as a positional coach it tells me either he happy where he is and does not want the responsibility or BB does not think he is good enough for the job. Daboll was an offensive assistant coach and is currently in his first year as the TE coach. It would be unusual of BB to promote someone so fast.

This tells me it is probably O'Shea or no one. We have Lafell in his 2nd year Edelman in his 6th and Gronk going into his 5th. Most of our key players know the system and can work around a shake up in that area.

Edit: Also Daboll it was a former OC so he has those credentials as well.

Daboll has been an OC before, probably him.

He has? Where and when was this? I could not find much on Daboll. Was it in the NFL and for how long?

My money is technically "no one" but with Daboll calling the plays. As noted, he's been an OC before. Started with the team as a coaching assistant in 2000 and got an official assistant job in 2002. Some people say that it was McDaniels' getting the de facto OC job ahead of him in 2005 (he had 1 more year of coaching experience on McDaniels) that caused Daboll to leave the team after 2006.

Daboll was OC for Cleveland in 09-10, Miami in 11 and Kansas in 12...so he seems the most likely candidate.

Well it would have been nice if they listed that on the Patriots site which is where i looked this up. Probably just should have checked his wikipedia page or something.

I vote Daboll as well.

When I saw the title of the thread, my first though was Brian Daboll. I would assume that he would have the inside track in the contingency plan for replacing McDaniels.

Fourth paragraph my friend.

Prior to joining the Dolphins, Daboll spent two seasons (2009-10) with the Cleveland Browns as offensive coordinator. The Browns' offense saw dramatic improvement in the second half of the season in Daboll's first year. Cleveland saw increased production in points scored (11.1 more points per game), red zone efficiency (20.8%), third-down efficiency (14.7%), turnovers (1.9 fewer per game) and time of possession (3:21 more per game) over the final eight games.

Curran, on WEEI last week, opined Daboll

It would probably be Daboll. Significant drop off there.

If McDaniels goes then who is our OC?

NEM ;)

(I'm guessing there's a few still here - beyond Ian - who would still remember the reference. At the very least NEM was always convinced he could do a better job than McDaniels... who's playcalling does sometimes infuriate me as well)

I think Ernie Zampese would be my second choice

1. Daboll
2. O'Shea
3. Weis

In order of probability. Even though I would prefer Weis myself as he has won 3 Super Bowls as our Offensive Coordinator in the past.

Ivan fears or Steve Belichick
;)

Steve or Brian Belichick, they will play the nepotism bowl and the winner get the chance.

Rex Ryan hired as OC to further his training for his next HC gig
