I don't know if the Chargers will be a tough game. I don't think they can keep up with the Pats. The Chargers are not the team they were earlier in the season and I think they may have been overrated because they beat up on a lot of bad teams. The Pats took both the Colts and Broncos to the woodshed and they are better than the Chargers. Hell, the Bengals are better than the Chargers.

Disagree completely, i think this Patriots team is one that needs to be at their best every week or they will drop that game, the Jets game demonstrated that imo even though they won it. If they show up the way they have against the Bronco's and Colts the past two games they will beat anyone, but short of that they can lose to anyone imo.

Not sure if this is the right thread....BUT...Massarotti MOVING THE GOALPOSTS AGAIN...."there's no reason they shouldn't go to the Super Bowl." Pretty sure this dooshbag had them pretty much dead and buried and the "window closed" 6 weeks ago...

They will be back. Even if we run the table to a Lombardi, they will come back to blast the draft picks.

That's only because Belichick can't draft, he sucks, they need a GM.

According to many on this board, including in this thread he should have been fired just before the start of this 6 game winning streak. You know, the game passed him by, and he was to arrogant to not make bad decisions in order to prove how smart he is.

He's been screwing them for years, if it weren't for the huge investment in high priced free agents the critics called for they would have lost relevance years ago, it's only because they signed Mack, traded two firsts for Harvin, and paid Wallace the big bucks that they have stayed on top. It would have helped if they had traded for Blackmon when he became available, but i guess you can't have everything.

I disagree that the Pats are a team that has to play their best every week or they will drop a game. At least unless you concede there are 31 other teams that have to play their best every week or they will drop a game. Brady clearly did not play his best last night and the Pats dominated. In fact, Brady sucked in the first half.

Also, this doesn't address my point. I don't think the Chargers are that good of a team. In fact, they might be one of the Pats weakest opponents in their last six games. That doesn't mean they can go into San Diego and mail it in. I am more worried about the fact that this is the second game of a two game road trip where the Pats don't go home until it is over than the actual opponent.

Standard procedure for the douchebags, they say they can't do it and then tell everyone how they really should do it and then rip them if they don't. They spent months saying the last two superbowl teams could never get there and then acted as if they failed spectacularly when they did but fell just short. In short they are assh0les, period, and they really only get off on them losing so they can pound their chests and act as if they knew it all along when in fact they really know nothing.

Not every player has to play their best every week, even Brady, but they do have to play a good game as a team to win each week. this isn't the kind of team that can just show up and win the way the 2007 team did throughout the season. I think every game this season is presenting them with real challenges and that will continue the rest of the way. SD is always dangerous and they will need a strong performance to come out of their with the win.

As far as the rest of the league i did feel that Denver could mail it in and win games but that illusion was shattered yesterday when St. Louis put the hurt on them. Overall i feel the league right now is one where you better show up or pay the price and yesterday was indicative of that. Great thing for the league imo.

There is a large gap between playing poorly and winning a close game and needing to be at your best to win.
The Patriots were not at their best in many of their wins.

Huh? They have only really been challenged once in the last 6 games.

Why did you think the Broncos could mail it in and win games, but the Pats cannot? Is it because the Pats have only won the last six games by 26 points, 15 points, 2 points, 27 points, and 22 points? A lot of nail biters there. I think even before this weekend, the Broncos were a team that needed to play their best game more than the Pats. The Broncos have only won by 20 or more points three times this season and none of them were against as good of teams as either the Broncos or the Colts (they were against the 49ers, Raiders, and Cards who were down to their third string QB).

The Pats are playing better in the last six weeks than the Broncos played earlier in the season. The Broncos have not played well on the road especially on offense. But you think the Broncos could mail a game in and the Pats' couldn't even though the Pats seem to be the superior team right now?

If the Broncos could mail it in and win against a bad team, the Pats certainly can too.

That said. I don't think any team can mail it in and win against anyone except maybe the Raiders. The Pats can certainly not play their best and win in this league. I don't think they played their best in many of the wins over the last six games, but they still dominated except against the Jets.

That is the MO of the sky is falling Chicken Littles on every board. They come out of the woodwork to complain when things are bad and disappear when things are good. I guarantee you that if the Pats go 5-11 three years from now, he will come back and say he told us so citing this thread.

So you don't agree that the Broncos and Colts presented with real challenges?

I agree that they handled the challenges really well and that gave them the opportunity to win but disagree that they didn't present them with real challenges. The same goes for Detroit and Green Bay and it would be foolish to just chalk those up as wins.

We won both games handily.

By that definition, the Raiders present real challenges but all 10 teams they played handled them well.
You are saying the Patriots must play their best game to beat anyone and I am saying thats not true.
I'm not sure how saying every team does some things well (which seems to be the upshot of your comments here) changes that.
The Patriots did not play their best in many of their wins. How do you reconcile that with your comment?

Ha, just went and looked at that forum...if I started posting there, half this board would instantly hate me (half of those who already don't, I mean!).

I said I thought that and was disabused of that notion yesterday. I think the Patriots are playing the best football in their league right now but also believe they are going to have to meet real challenges every week to keep that going. I believe they have the team and mindset to do that they just have to stay focused and as healthy as possible to do that, and if anything I would have thought that Denver loss yesterday would have been a lesson not to look past anything.

Since you didn't answer I will ask again- you don't think the Broncos and Colts presented real challenges for the Patriots to deal with?

I am saying they need to stay focused and play well to win each week, you apparently don't agree, so be it.

This thread is excellent

Lets hope this is being bumped all the way through February

This is my point, period.

I don't think the Broncos lost yesterday because they looked past the Rams. I think they lost because the Rams could pressure Manning and Manning's arm strength is crap and could only throw short passes.

BTW, I have been saying for over a week that I thought the Rams could or would win that game yesterday. So I never thought is was a game that was a given. The Rams play teams tough.

But as Andy said, there is a lot of wiggle room between mailing it in and not playing your best.
