Aaron Dobson

Anyone else think that Dobson and/or Boyce would be producing with the Packers, Saints or Broncos?

(See: Devante Adams, Brandin Cooks, Kenny Stills, Dante Moncrief, TY Hilton)

Even Pittsburgh has gotten Markus Wheaton and Martayvis Bryant going, as have the Bengals with Sanu and Marvin Jones. Keenan Allen on the Chargers. Terrence Williams on Cowboys. I'm sure the list can go on for a few more names.

Minus Cooks, all these guys are 2nd-5th round picks drafted in the past 2-3 years.

For me his foot is still the issue, I can't believe a guy who had a very good season last year and in the only game he played in the pre-season (caught a nice TD) is this down in the roster and without any credit with the coaching staff.

Maybe he's not in football shape, is lazy, doesn't take good care of himself, have some kind of poor atitude, I don't know, it has to be something different than pure football and his play.

If anything, at this point I'm just hoping Dobson is this year's Blount, and has a coming out party towards the end of the season. Not from playing time due to injuries though. *knock on wood*

I also think a lot of things are going wrong (from his perspective) that are preventing him from getting on the field. First it was his foot injury. He missed a lot of valuable time in training camp and pre-season. Then versus the Bills he looked bad by committing the false start, coming off the field, and then Tyms catches a bomb for a TD 10 seconds later. Then, just when it looked like we could've started making Amendola inactive, he shows something on special teams returns. And now with a tough schedule coming up, the coaching staff might be hesitant to throw someone new into the mix, not wanting to mess up what's working well.

His attitude has always seemed perfectly fine to me. And he needed to bulk up this off-season, and did exactly that. He put on some solid muscle. So, no red flags for laziness, not taking care of himself, or attitude problems, from what I can tell.

Dobson can play in this league without a doubt, Brady is just really in-sync with Edelman and Lafell as our wideouts right now. Don't fix what's not broken in my opinion. Dobson will come around eventually!

This sounds good. So, why is Tyms playing instead of Dobson? Why is Amendola; surely Edelman cnadf TE's can handle the slot if Dobson were playing a lot.

The truth is that Dobson is #5 on the depth chart of wide receivers, and is not more worthy of being active than the 5th RB/FB.

Dobson can play in this league without a doubt

The Patriots currently have the following players doing something worth a damn with any consistency as receivers:

Edelman
Gronk
Vereen
LaFell

If you think that the team considers that to be more than enough, and wouldn't bring Dobson onto the active squad in a heartbeat, if they thought he was more ready to contribute than

Amendola
Tyms
Wright
White

then we just have a fundamental disagreement about how BB runs his team. I don't know the "why" of Dobson's absence from the active list, but I'm pretty sure BB is not punishing the team for 5 of 8 games just to make some point to Aaron Dobson.

How has he been passed? Did you just discount his rookie season? The most productive rookie WR ever in the bb/Brady era.

Being "the most productive rookie WR in the Brady/BB era" isn't really saying very much, is it? How many times have we gotten rid of our #1 option (Welker), our #2 option (Llyod), our #3 option (Woodhead), lost our #1 star TE who we basically got a handful of "real" games from due to injury (Gronk), and also lost our #2 TE who caught a ton of passes as well (Hernandez) all in the same offseason?

That's the top FIVE receiving threats right there that were turned over, with 3 rookies thrown into the mix due to a lack of any other real option. Notice that ALL of those 3 options have either been cut at some point, or have been healthy scratches since this time last season. It's pretty obvious that they weren't all that good when compared to some real NFL talent--at least on this specific roster.

Did we honestly expect Brady to throw to himself? I'm sure Giselle would be fine with it, but it's not very realistic. Dobson caught some balls and had a few good games last year where he started clicking. That hardly means that he's going to amount to some great WR, or that he's a sure-fire lock to make our team in the next year with drastically improved options.

I think we're all still pulling for him, but are kind of apprehensive after seeing this movie play out before with the likes of some other high draft picks at the position.

I gotta say .... I was terribly wrong on my (negative) assessment of LaFell. Unfortunately, I seem to have been equally wrong on my positive assessment of Dobson.

Trying to assess WRs in this system is difficult (in my opinion).

You never really know until they either start to pick things up or they don't. We can hype up all of the circus catch WRs in the NCAAs that we want to, but in the end it doesn't really seem to matter very much.

It would appear that Tyms has either shown enough, or is on the right track with enough that they feel it's worth keeping a roster spot open for him. I agree with keeping him on as a developmental prospect, and the same goes with Dobson. Hopefully, one of them will pan out.

Considering how Lafell has seized control of the WR2 spot, and how the WR4/WR5 sees barely any snaps in our offense, it looks bleak for Dobson. At this point, barring injuries, Dobson will enter 2015 training camp battling for a roster spot.

It's really starting to look like BB batted 0/3 with Dobson, KT, and Boyce.
Respect. He didn't draft KT. You can't hold an undrafted free agent against him. Boyce was clearly a miss. The jury is still out on Dobson. We don't really know what's going on with him. I'm not entirely disagreeing with you and do see the point you're trying to make, though.

I was never high on Dobson unlike some that thought he was the next Randy Moss. He is constantly a healthy scratch and it seems he like dead last on the depth chart. I said when Thompkins was cut that Dobsons days are numbered here.

Asked about Aaron Dobson today. Was told not to right him off. "He's getting healthier" and "he'll make an impact before season is over"

I know Edelman can, and does, play outside but LaFell and Dobson outside with Edelman in the slot and Gronk at TE, that's the offense we really need; not that the 40 PPG we've averaged since KC is bad or anything.

By not being a factor on special teams hes absolutely buried on this roster.

I think he does have talent and can contribute at an NFL level.

This just might not be the place for him.

I don't see how Dobson can't get playing time when Amendola is pretty much the most non-productive WR in the league.

I think the point is that he's not technically injured but isn't 100% for sharp cuts or risk of injury but is getting closer to that. Presumably DA will suffice until Dobson gets closer to 100%.

He's probably not 100%, that's the only thing that makes sense. Foot injuries are tricky and I think he has already re-injured it before

Finally some clarity there. He's not healthy yet. Makes total sense. This is very good news. Beats the alternative of him being a malcontent or not able to understand the offense. Like I've said over these 42 pages, he needs to build upon a strong rookie campaign.
