You do realize that the team is probably working on contract extensions for a large number of players at the same time? These things, given management demands, market value, team value and management value do not materialize overnight during negotiations.
It's an incredibly poor point of discussion when considering Devin McCourty's excellent level of performance and importance to the secondary.
You're probably right about the team working on a large number of contract extensions. Thanks for helping make my point. Chandler Jones and Hightower can be extended after this season. I think there's a very good chance they'll try to work something out with Jones before his contract ends in 2015. They picked up Solder's 2015 option, but they may want to work out an extension before next year to reduce his cap number. Revis is a big question mark, and they have to allow for a decent chunk of available salary cap dollars if they decide to sign him to a new deal. Ask yourself this question--is it easier to replace a LT, a pass rusher, an elite corner, or a safety? When you look at all those priorities, you can see why they may let McCourty walk, rather than pay him what he thinks he's worth.
