Knowshon Moreno ?

I don't believe in over extending for a RB. However if he is willing to come here on a discount then I would definitely pick him up for reasons everyone in this thread has made.

However my cutoff (personally) for paying an RB is 2.5 per season about and ONLY that much if they can catch the ball which Moreno can do.

Personally I'd much rather have him than Blount even if he cost a little more. The power running game is the most overrated aspect of playoff football.

The RB market sucks..he should come cheap.

But i still want Blount back. Blount it is for me

I just hope Ridley isn't on the outs. He's a huge talent that just needs to cut down on the fumbles.

If we can get Moreno and trade Ridley I'd be okay with that frankly. Ridley for pick 50 would be a win IMO and with Moreno we don't lose much if anything. We would need to find a decent option to be our 3rd guy but we can take that shot with a 6th round pick and use the pick we got from Ridley on a potential impact D player.

he would be a better fit cause he can catch the ball but power running is not about the RB its about the OL and the pats got beat on both side of the ball upfront vs Denver

I would rather have Blount, but I wouldn't be opposed to having Moreno. For the right price, that is.

I'd prefer Moreno just because of his skill set compared to Blount's (more of a factor in the passing game). I didn't watch him much, but just looking at the stats, it seems like whenever he was on the field he was fine. The issue was that for some reason, the Broncos were doing anything to keep him off the field. Maybe he was bad in practice, or injured a lot (I have no idea if that's true, just a guess), or maybe the Broncos coaching was just incompetent. I think Moreno and Blount have about an equal number of question marks, and given that, I'd prefer Moreno's skill set.

I'm all in for Moreno.

The RB market is terrible this year, it's time to pull the trigger in one of the premium RB's on the league and stop with this crap that we can plug and play any JAG RB and it will work fine. Moreno is a player who can really make a difference, Moreno + Ridley would be awesome.

I'm with the guys who think Blount will not be a big factor now that opposing defenses know what's coming.

Although everyone thinks we are more or less set at RB, Belichick will want to bring in a guy on a two year contract (along with some draftees and UFAs) as I believe our other two RBs contracts are up next year

That could necessitate getting a solid player who can contribute next season as well as this

If Ridley could hold on to the ball I could care a less if Blount moved on but at this point I'd like to see him back here although part of me would prefer Moreno.

The benefit Moreno offers is his ability to play all three downs but more importantly he has displayed the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield which outside of Vereen there isn't anyone else really with that ability.

Ridley Career Rushing Attempts: 555. Career Fumbles: 9
Blount Career Rushing Attempts: 579 Career Fumbles :12

If your concern with Ridley is ball security then Blount who has bigger ball securities issues is not the guy you want as a fall back.

I understand that but see last season

I understand that but see last season

Ridley 178 Rushing Attempts, 4 fumbles.
Blount 153 Rushing Attempts, 3 fumbles.

Yeah looking at last seasons stats i dont see how Blount is a more secure ball carrier than Ridley.

If you really want to nitpick 1 of Ridleys 4 fumbles last year was on pass against the steelers so his true running stats would be:

Ridley 178 rushing attempts, 3 fumbles which is better than blount.

no...never met Shon Moreno...

Ridley 178 attempts, 773 yards
Blount 153 attempts, 772 yards.

Yet somehow the narrative is that Ridley is a liability and we need to re-sign Blount. I think everyone can agree that Ridley had a down year. His down year was comparable to Blounts year that everyone seems to think was great. (yes i understand if Blount has the same number of carries he likely adds ~50-100 yards.)

Losing Blount wont be a big loss. Getting Moreno instead of Blount will be an ugrade.

RBS are so expendable now in the NFL..especially on this team

I'm not going to hunt down which fumbles were on what kind of plays, because both are statistically non-receivers. If we changed "fumbles" to "touches", there would be little change, so I'm not going to go there.

Blount had 9 fumbles in his first 2 years, but only 3 in the next 2 seasons. He also has a higher YPC, both as a member of the Patriots and overall. So, for Blount, his fumble rate in years 1 and 2 was one fumble per 42.8 carries. In years 3 and 4, his fumble rate was one fumble per 64.7 carries.

Ridley, on the other hand, has gone in the opposite direction. In year 1, 87 carries and 1 fumble. In year 2, 1 fumble every 72.5 carries. In year 3, 1 fuble every 44.5 carries.

If you isolate Blount's last season, he was still fumbling once every 51 carries, which is better than Ridley.

Breaking things down that way, Blount is trending better than Ridley. The question is whether the trends are real, or just statistical noise.

I wouldn't go as far as far, far. Maybe not even far. But probably better yes.

This is the first decent season Moreno has had. Up until last season, everyone - the fans, the coaches, the writers - kept waiting (in vain) for something to happen with this guy.

He was viewed as serviceable, but little more and there was talk of who they might draft to replace him.

Perhaps he has found himself as a football player, but for my money, I'd rather have the dependability of Blount running out of the backfield.

Just my 2 cents....

It wasn't just last season that he suddenly came into his own. He showed it the season before when they lost McGahee. Last season he won a three way battle for the starting job and had a great year.

Sounds like MIA is close

RB market coming into some focus. Moreno moving closer to deal w/Miami. Blount to visit PIT Thurs/Fri: NE interested in him as well ..
