It's time for Amendola to step up

that catch in the first quarter around 7 minutes, where he dug the ball up and converted a crucial first down was huge!

I thought he had a pretty good game myself. The pass was not as emphasized but he definitely showed up.

another big catch was in the 3rd, when the colts were down by 6 and the patriots had the ball deep in their zone, and connected on a 53 yard play action pass.

That's great and all, but why up this thread. Now you going to have that Dola hater writing more insane essays on why he believes Dola is bad..

Some people just get off on hearing themselves talk, and nothing will ever stop them.

If you think Amendola had a good night you did not watch the game very closely, he struggled to get open all night more than any player on the football field. The big receptions he ran untouched and uncovered through the secondary due to an outstanding play action fake that the Colts bit on, any receiver on the team could have made that play and most would have likely taken it to the house. He did make two other very nice receptions but he really struggled to get open badly.

At the end of the night you have to be disappointed when in week 19 of the season your biggest free agent signing in years is opening the game as the 3rd wide receiver behind Edelman and Thompkins, along with giving way to Matthew Slater a few times.

Either the groin is a major issue still (as many suggest) or Amendola is not longed to be a member of this team. I cannot see any way that you can let Edelman walk and trust Amendola to be the primary receiver in 2014 that is a recipe for disaster in my opinion.

There really is no pleasing you

You wanted him to step up and he made the biggest reception in the game

sooo, 4 catches for 77 yards is a bad game? the only way he has a good game is if he has 10 catches for 100? and even then you would say some dont matter because amendola was open and didnt make a contested hard catch

Can you please refrain from talking to us like we're five year olds. Some of us are quite capable of watching the game and coming up with a different conclusion to you.

You clearly know nothing about football, he had no fantasy points, nuff said!

Skater played 4 snaps. And every time he was the WR out there. The long pass to Amendola it was not on target pass by Brady. Amendola had to slow down to get it and sorry no other receiver would have taken it to the house. Watch the play again. Amendola was a great blocker last night.

And again...his blocking was very good, as it has normally been this season.

Actually, all of Hooman, Devlin, and the offensive linemen were as well obviously. We imposed our will physically, which is always great to see this time of year.

Amendola is hardly any kind of "damaged goods" here. As usual, Edelman had many more targets tonight (9 vs 5), but Amendola produced some timely grabs and had almost as many yards at 77 to Edelman's 84. It'd be great to have both of them again, especially if we added a healthy Dobson, along with even the potential of an additional free agent who was somewhat reasonable in cost. Either way you look at it, Amendola should be more productive next season with another year with Brady, along with better targets in the passing game--such as the PIT game example.

If his blocking was so good why do they favor Edelman, Thompkins and Slater over him?

All due respect Sup but the suggestion that he made more timely grabs than Edelman makes no sense at all, Edelman made a handful of crucial catches for first downs that kept scoring drives alive. IN addition your point about him having as many yards is true but 53 of the 77 yards came on 1 play, a play that was much more of a correlation than causation situation for Amendola.

Highlight: Danny Amendola 53-yard reception

He was basically allowed to run freely through the secondary and Landry completely bit on the play action fake. It was still a good play because he brought in the reception but I am not going to pretend that 99% of receivers in the NFL would have converted that same play with relative ease.

As I have said in other posts Amendola struggled badly to get open yesterday, he couldn’t create any space whatsoever even on his 3rd reception of the game he was blanketed and Brady threw a perfect pass.

Honestly as I watch Amendola I think maybe the comparison to Wes Welker is the reason I see him as underwhelming, he actually seems to be more of a Deion Branch type of receiver who can play the Y-WR and make intermediate receptions and the occasional big play.

I actually think a lineup of:

X-WR: Dobson
Z-WR: Edelman
Y-WR: Amendola
TE: Gronkowski

With Boyce able to back up the Y and Z positions and Thomkpins also maybe Harrison able to back the X sets us up well in 2014. Priorities resigning Edelman, draft another tight end and try our best to retain Blount and we could have a beastly offense in 2014.

Thats "FROM YOU" not "to you," okay Jr.?

I am pleased that he made the play, I just am concerned with his difficulty getting open. As I said in my post to Sup the more I watch Amendola the more I feel he is actually more of a Deion Branch type receiver who fits at the Y-WR.

I would not exactly say he step up however, I think he played a good game for a 3rd wide receiver which would be something I would be far more enthused by if he was being paid like a 3rd wide receiver.

I did not mean for it to come across like that, my apologies.

Amendola is a disappointment and I don't care what he does or what anyone says!

Brady6, you claimed awhile ago that Amendola had given way to Slater too, despite Slater having played 1 offensive snap all year to that point. Yesterday, Slater played 4 snaps because he is essentially the third tight end in goal line formations - Amendola didn't 'give way' unless Edelman also 'gave way' as he was not in when Slater was.

Thompkins did not record a catch last night, and Amendola and Thompkins split snaps, a sign that both are surely still dealing with nagging injuries. But if we're using snap counts to decide the most impactful player, then Hoomanwanui was the only guy to play all 73 snaps, so clearly he is the most integral part of this offense.

Brady completed 13 passes last night, and 4 of those went to Amendola. That's a pretty good sign that Amendola is a big part of the offense, even with his snap count limited due to injury.

But you'll just claim that Amendola and Thompkins split snaps because the coaching staff doesn't trust Amendola, and you know that Amendola isn't dealing with a nagging injury because your mom's a gynecologist or something.

Legarette Blount had an awful game last night, why else would they use Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen so much? They didn't even trust Blount to run the ball in on the goal line. And in the first half he only averaged 3.8 yards per carry, and if you take out his 75 yard run its even worse, and he got stopped behind the line several times. You guys are clearly watching a different game than I am.

He made some good plays which is great and he helped the team win. The fundamental problem is not that he is playing so poorly it is that he is the 3rd wide receiver on this team in week 19 of the season and we cut him a check for $8,500,000 during the 2013 pay period. That is the issue, listen as I said in other posts the more I watch of him the more he appears to be more of a replacement for the Deion Branch role than the Wes Welker position which is fine but he is being paid differently.

Let’s flash forward to 2014 for a minute; Gronkowski is healthy, we resign Edelman, Dobson makes the 2nd year leap, Vereen is 100%, Boyce and Thompkins make strides in year 2 as well and we sign or draft another tight end. We have Amendola being paid $5,700,000 on average for what to be our 4 option at best? Now it’s not a terrible probably to have fortunately but still it’s not the best use of money.

Not sure you're right. Pretty confident "to you" is the correct usage.
