The BIGGEST REACH of the 2013 draft: Harmon vs RANKED SAFETIES taken after him

OT I know but it's interesting reading through this thread and the OP putting in a throw away line about Da'Rick Rogers, there's now reports coming out of Buffalo that he may not make their roster.

Worth a waiver claim if he is cut?

He doesn't have any talent issues, so if he's not performing well enough, then he clearly hasn't matured enough to be part of an NFL team. As a general rule, if a guy like that can't stick with one team, then I don't see why he's going to suddenly grow up and break out with another.

Duron Harmon will be a good player for us. That is not to say it wasn't a silly move, since the safety from Syracuse the Steelers got, who excel us in drafting in the mid rounds, will have a much more successful NFL career IMHO as things stand now. Remember Shamarko Thomas, the short, stocky guy who will decapitate receivers and pummel running backs, while Harmon will be a nice STer and back-up.

I think the Logan Ryan/Duron Harmon picks is more than the sum of its parts: having those two who already have an excellent on the field communication is a plus. It's weirdly kind of cool to me.

Last year's arrogant stunt by Belichick, however, in drafting Tavon Wilson in the second round was so unnecessary esp. when talented defensive linemen were available.

Did you notice his interchangeable fellow secondary member Terry Hawthorne was drafted in the fifth round? Wilson is a tiny bit bigger, but Hawthorne ran a 4.4/40 as opposed to Wilson's 4.52.

Watching Illinois games over the years these two were interchangeable in my mind, both in their play and in their production.

Here, see for yourself: FIGHTINGILLINI.COM - Tavon Wilson Profile

Heck, they both had the same hair in college.

It's a piece of evidence I find revealing: Tavon Wilson was a dreadful reach.

I don't find it revealing at all.

Plus I think the evidence that no Strong Safety drafted after Tavon, that year has done squat in the League, is much more revealing.

As for the draft of Duron, this year, I have yet to see any Free Safety prospect has done much yet, and it is way too early.

Haven't you had your fill of smurf DBs yet? Shamarko may be the second coming of the Colts star smurf SS, the one who played about 4-6 games per season. Respectfully, NO Thanks!

Besides, It is water over the dam. you can't change anything.

Wrong, Spastic!! :D

Just because you are all too evidently incapable of an Original Thought doesn't mean that we aren't!! :D

We are all playing at an enormous disadvantage ~ because we don't have access to the Scouting, the Depth of Coaching Tape, the Depth of Information, or the Eye to Eye Interviews, that Coach Bill does.

But it doesn't mean that ~ even working with such an enormous disadvantage ~ we cannot make our own Evaluations...and occasionally make better Calls even than Coach Bill himself, the Greatest in All the Land!!

And doing so doesn't mean that we are better than him...

It only means that it's possible to make a better decision than'm, every now and then ~ just possible, mind you ~ despite his enormous advantage in Information and his outstanding Skills.

And the fact that you lack that Capacity and are clearly bitter about it...doesn't change it.

...

OOh! OOh! OOh!. You've cut him to the Quick. The Truth hurts.

I offer a soothing balm with the bon mots: "There is nothing sadder of word or pen, then it might hve been". Or "It is a waste of time, You can't change it." and or "It is water over the dam." ;):D:D:D:D:D

How many of our safeties can play the single high role apart from Devin McCourty? It seems to me that Harmon, because of his college role, was brought in to backup McCourty as a like for like player. For that reason alone, I like his value in the third round.

Just wanted to give props to manxman on this one: with 2 preseason games to go, Harmon has steadily taken on more responsibilities and seems to have risen to the position of McCourty's top backup. And while he remains a work in progress, he is indeed the only other Patriot besides McCourty who you'd want anywhere near a single high role. (By all accounts he's also smart enough to take on McCourty's "qb of the secondary" role.)

Now just watch: McCourty will stay healthy, Harmon won't get a lot of snaps, and thus he'll be proclaimed "another terrible reach and a bust."

He's an UDFA Sciz. Talk about giving a player an opportunity.

I agree, way too early to call this one or Wilson for that matter. Let's see how the year plays out first.

Like with all rookies, mistakes will be made. Hopefully they are in preseason and not in games.
