TJ Donald. The next Brandon Meriweather. Plays similar to his style too.

Bad tackling. Bad Angles. Hits H2H. Whiffs.

I like Connolly a great deal...but as our 4th IL ~ a Schwing Guard/Center.So that leaves us with a 2013 Comp Pick...unless we want to pay him a starter's wage to be Super Reserve, something that I'm not frankly against, but which probably doesn't work with The Cap.

3 years @ 2 million per year wouldn't hurt the Patriots cap at all if that is the cost of getting a super-sub. The Pats payed Mike Wright at least that much to play the defensive line equivilent of swing everything. If I have next year's numbers correct, the Pats have plenty of cap room.

I HEAR you, Brother Ninja!! Loud and CLEAR.

I like Connolly a great deal...but as our 4th IL ~ a Schwing Guard/Center.

What's most disappointing about this prospective off season is that it's not very likely that we can snatch much Draft Capital ~ "Loot", to use Brother Snake's NomenClature :D ~ for a very valuable Reserve.

Nor can we likely afford to keep him: after virtually two years, starting, it's unlikely he fails to draw at least one offer of big bucks.

He's nowhere near good enough to Franchise, and if I got the rules right ~ a weak spot of mine ~ he's far beyond Restricting.

So that leaves us with a 2013 Comp Pick...unless we want to pay him a starter's wage to be Super Reserve, something that I'm not frankly against, but which probably doesn't work with The Cap.

***

What I'd like to see is our bringing back Koppen as a Reserve/Possible Starter/Possible Emergency O Guard...and lay down heavy Draft Cap on Brewster...or possibly Konz.

I'll bust out Centers, tonight, after I've gotten some sleep...Would it make more sense to roll out all O Line Grizzlies in one thread?? I'll hit those, and then the Tight Ends/Flex Ends/Wing Backs, then the Split Ends/Flanker Ends, and Slot Ends...

I concur, sir, but that's what I'm saying: After 2 years of starting ~ plus that dashing 71 Yard Punt Return to spice up the old resume :D ~ I have my doubts that we'd be able to retain him for such a cheap price tag...

Here's a two round mock I did on another site. With our win last night and NO win at Atlanta. Looks like our picks are dropping. Which is a good thing. But, a couple of my binkies like Still and Upshaw will be gone. Damn Raiders win again too! Even have a Luck trade. I also think Miami has to grease Carolina's palms if they want Barkley at 3. Or, Cleveland might trade up as I mentioned. My Pats picks are

1A Vinny Curry - DE - Marshall

6224487.jpg

- Maybe we stick with 4-3. Even if not, I think he can play olb in a 3-4.

1b TJ McDonald - S - USC

574825416.jpg

- Looks like a FS type. Which we desperately need.

2a Dwight Jones - WR - UNC

676987096.jpg

- Big guy. NFL Comp - Kenny Britt/Hakeem Nicks

2b Ben Jones - C - Georgia

115540459.jpg

- Not sure about this. Wasn't crazy about the DL on board. Great spot for a trade back. Pick up a 3 and 4.

1 Indy to Washington - Andrew Luck - QB - Stanford . Give up their 1st and 2nd this year. Their 1st, 2nd and 3rd next year. I don't think Barkley falls to Skins slot. Not crazy about Landry Jones and don't know enough about RG3 yet. That's why Skins do it. Tough pill to swallow for Skins. But, take your medicine son. You'll feel better in the long run.

2. Carolina - Matt Kalil - T- USC - BPA. J. Otah really beat up with knee issues. Slide J. Gross to RT. Matt gets to play with his bro. Keep the franchise Cam Newton healthy. And, believe me. This could be traded. I was tempted to trade this pick to Cleveland for both firsts. If Cleveland values Matt Barkley I think that trade gets done.

3. Miami - Matt Barkley - QB - USC Desperate at qb. May have to float Carolina a 2nd just for not trading that pick. Like Cleveland did when they drafted Kellen Winslow Jr.

4. St. Louis - Justin Blackmon - WR - OK ST. Let's get Bradford some weapons. Rams heydey in St. L was with Bruce/Holt combo.

5. Minnesota - Mo Claiborne - CB - LSU - I'm flexible here. Was considering J. Martin and Q. Coples. Shut down cb's don't grow on trees.

6. Wash to Indy - Trent Richardson - RB - Alabama - I'm assuming Manning wants to play another 3-4 years. And, the best way to keep him healthy will be with a strong running game. Trent will be great running that stretch play he used to with Edge. Have plenty of other picks now to rebuild roster.

7. Arizona - Jon Martin - T- Stanford - Have to give Kolb some more time and make it as easy as possible for him.

8. Cleveland - Robert Griffin 3 - QB - Baylor. Has a year or two behind Colt to develop. Will probably need it. RG3 should send Cam Newton a thank you note for helping him get selected this high.

9. Jacksonville - Alshon Jeffrey - WR - So Car - See St. Louis. Get B. Gabbert some weapons.

10. Philly - Vontaze Burfict - MLB - Ariz St - This team has a huge hole at MLB. Maybe Te'o here.

11. Seattle - Quentin Coples - DE - UNC - BPA at a position they could use help. Considered Landry Jones. They do have two fairly young qb's in T. Jackson and Whitehurst.

12. KC - Landry Jones - QB - Oklahoma - Good situation for Landry. Doesn't have to play right away. KC gets their qb of the future. Hopefully. Don't see a premier player worth taking instead of developmental qb

13. San Diego - Devon Still - DE - PSU - I see him as a two gap 5 tech de in their system. Oakland has been running the ball down their throats. They better figure a way to stop it. Considered Upshaw and Te'o.

14. Tampa Bay - Dre Kirkpatrick - CB - Bama - Ronde can't play forever. Talib didn't work out.

15. Denver - No freakin idea what this team is going to do. Seem to be building a pretty good defense. Have some edge rushers. Help that interior with Brandon Thompson - DT - Clemson. I'll listen to suggestions Broncos fans. 3-4 OR 4-3?? Wishbone next year?? OL not too bad. Have some wr's. Very hard to project here. I considered Zack Brown. But, you have Von Miller.

16. Tennessee - Michael Floyd - WR - Notre Dame Should make a pretty combo paired with Britt.

17. Atlanta to Cleveland - Zack Brown - OLB - UNC - BPA at a position they can use help. Don't value the rb's and wr's left high enough to pick here. Pretty sure they would consider a trade back here. Considering they did that a lot last year.

18. NY Jets - Courtney Upshaw - OLB - Alabama - Need to pressure Tom Brady or he will eventually get you. I think you make playoffs and pick higher though Jets fans. Can't see 3 teams from AFC North making it.

19. Dallas - Alameda Ta'amu - NG - Washington - Helps keep blockers off their lb's. I also considered Te'o, Barron or McDonald, and Rieff. I have you guys winning the NFC East and picking higher though Poke fans.

20. Buffalo - Mantei Te'o - LB - Notre Dame - Bills need a lot of help on defense. OL good, Jackson/Spiller at rb, Fitzy extended, good wr's. Have to go defense right?

21. Oakland to Cincy - Alonzo Dennard - CB - Nebraska - Had them taking a cb before L. Hall got hurt last night. Maybe a little worried about Jenkins off the field issues. Really seem to be coming together as a team. I go safe here.

22. Cincy - Bengals in the playoffs if season ends today. And, could make it. Going to be tough though. I think Jets sneak in. Never been a Cedric Benson fan. I think Lamar Miller takes a lot of heat off of Dalton Gang if he declares. And, I think he will.

23. Detroit - David DeCastro - G - Stanford - These next 3 playoff teams get players who should have been drafted higher. But, the idiot who did the mock didn't slot them correctly...LOL

24. Chicago - Peter Konz - C - Wisonsin - Gotta keep Cutler upright.

25. NY Giants - Riley Rieff - T - Iowa - BPA

26. Baltimore - Dontae Hightower - LB - Bama Ravens like those defenders who can play multiple positions. Can use him inside/out. Eventually replaces Ray Ray in the middle.

27. New England - Vinny Curry - OLB/DE - Can get after the qb in either the 3-4 or 4-3.

28. No to New England - TJ McDonald - S - USC Need a safety who can play the ball when it's in the air. I like P. Chung but that's not his strength. I don't think the Bama guys are as good as a ballhawk as McDonald is.

29. Houston - Janoris Jenkins - CB - Considered DL here. Building a heckuva defense down there in Houston.

30. San Fran - Dwayne Allen - TE - Clemson - Just basing this off of his offenses at Stanford. I think he'd like to go with a two TE set with V. Davis. Worried about depth behind Gore. Don't have any rb's rated this high.

31 Pittsburgh - They always just draft the best damn player. That's why they're so good. Address the de with Hood and Heyward. I'm going with Luke Kuechly. Considered Mark Barron and Mike Adams.

32 GB - Super Bowl rematch. Dontari Poe - DL - Memphis. Considered J. Worthy, J. Crick, R. Lewis and a couple of defensive backs.

2ND ROUND

Indy - Muhammad Sanu - WR - Rutgers

Miami - Should give this to Carolina since I let you pick Barkley. But, I won't. Miami selects Chase Minnifield.

St. Louis - Mark Barron - S - Alabama

Minnesota - Mike Adams - T - Ohio St

Carolina - Jayron Hosley - CB - Va Tech

Arizona to Philly - Robert Lester - S - Alabama

Cleveland - Nick Toon - WR - Wisconsin

Jacksonville - Stephen Gilmore - CB - So. Carolina

Philly - Whitney Mercilus - DE - Illinois

Seattle - Jerel Worthy - DT - Michigan St

Wash to Indy - Melvin Ingram DE - So Carolina

SD - Ronnell Lewis - OLB - Oklahoma

TB - Cordy Glenn - OL - Georgia

Denver - Ryan Tanneyhill - QB - Texas A&M

KC Brandon Jenkins - OLB - Florida St

Atlanta - Casey Heyward - CB - Vanderbilt

NY Jets - Jeff Fuller - WR - Texas A&M

Dallas - Mike Brewster - C - Ohio ST

Buffalo - Jared Crick - DE - Nebraska

Tennessee - Nigel Bradham - OLB - Florida ST

Oakland to NE - Dwight Jones - WR- UNC

Cincy - Kelechi Osemele - OL - Iowa St

Detroit - Travis Lewis - OLB - Oklahoma

Chicago - Marvin McNutt - WR - Iowa

NY Giants - Markelle Martin - S - Oklahoma ST

Baltimore - Zerbie Sanders - T - Florida St

New England - Ben Jones - C- Georgia

New Orleans - Devin Taylor - DE - So Carolina

Houston - Josh Chapman - NG - Alabama

SF - Lemichael James - RB - Oregon

Pitt - Levy Adcock - T - Oklahoma ST

GB - Bruce Irvin - OLB - West Va

What did ya think of the Luck trade? Seems fair to me. I'm only doing it if Peyton Manning tells me he's ok and wants to play out his career in Indy. I was light on your grizzlies. My thinking was stick with the 4-3 with this one. Would still like to get an olb who can run, a depth cb or a dt in the draft. He's tiny for our system. But, I've been impressed with Levonte David from Nebraska. Would just be an olb in obvious passing situations. Made the key stop at psu Sat. Stuffed Silas Redd on 4th and one. One on one. No help. Redd kid is a pretty good back. Get a cb in the 4th. Sign a vet for dt and s. Maybe, we have a respectable defense.

The Luck Trade

On the Luck trade, it seems exorbitant, yet...fair!! Love it!! :rocker:

After all ~ and it looks like you had this in mind ~ it's not that far beyond what the Giants payed for Eli ~ 2 1st's, a 3rd, and a 5th, if I recall ~ and Eli is no Andrew Luck.

The 43 Versus the 34

Very interesting way to put it: "Stick with the 43 for this one."

I think your position makes a LOT of sense, for the simple reason ~ as you have presumably noted ~ that this draft is almost BONE DRY on 5 Techs...a position at which we have a yawning ABYSS.

As for me, my intent is to build out the 34 AND the 43.

LaVonte David

Intriguing 2nd Rounder. I think you're spot on in that he'd be limited to Passing Down Flanker ~ OLB to you Earthlings ~ duties, and even then his mass is suspect at 6.1/225...But a very intriguing prospect, I agree. Exceptional Instincts, intriguing Pass Rush skills, and great Verticity ~ Turn + Burn Acuity ~ in the Passing Game.

Indeed, he might make an exceptional Rover Back in our 425.

Good eye, Bro.

CBS has updated their rankings list. I think it's a pretty good Top 50. My only gripe is no Vinny Curry. Pretty sure he's top 35-40. If not higher. Doesn't have the safeties very high we keep seeing mocked to us. Safeties are tough to evaluate if you don't have the coach's film. I watched USC a couple of times and McDonald lined up so deep. He barely got in the picture most plays. The Bama guys have so much talent around them. Makes them difficult too. Gives you an idea of who might be available when we pick.

Good stuff, Brother PennPat.

When I'm trying to gauge a Prospect's REAL Market Value, I take about 30% Walter, 30% Draft Scout, and add about 40% my OWN twisted view of where these guys are going...Interesting that CBS ~ which gets all its good stuff directly from NFL Draft Scout ~ diverges with them in many ways...

PatsFaninPa- you talked about Vinny Curry being in the 35-40 range. I'd have to say he's the hardest player to earmark for were he will be drafted. Found a couple of sights putting him in bottom of the 1st, three or four had him in the third, with the majority placing him in the second rd. & most of them, at the bottom of the second.

Has the measureables BB. loves, but most point to his level of competition, as wanting.

At this moment, I'd guess BB. would go Devon Still 1a- 1b goes to 2013.
Vinny Curry 2a- 2b FS

That's as far as I would go for now. I'm convinced Devon Still will be our first choice based on his play and the fact 2013 doesn't look like it will have anyone better. What are your thoughts.

Yeah, Curry seems all over the place on different sites. After Couples, there really aren't a lot of great de(4-3) prospects. And, not too many 3-4 lb's. Upshaw prob only one with a first round grade. That alone moves him up into the late 1st or early 2nd. I would have no prob taken him with one of our first. Box O Rocks posted some videos on him last year and I've followed him since. In addition to having good size for a 3-4 olb, he's got a great motor. May not be big enough for some teams who want a 4-3 de. That Raider pick is dropping. The rest of that division stinks. Might be 52 or lower. Can't wait that long for a pass rusher. That's why I'd take him at 1b.

Devon Still. First, heard about him in 08. Heard he was having a great camp until he broke his leg. Was backing up Odrick and Ogbu. Finally got on the field late in the season and you could tell he had the size/strength. Backed Odrick and Ogbu up in 09. Started last year. But, PSU's defensive ends were terrible. He got double-teamed quite a bit. And, he didn't make a lot of plays. I read he really got himself in great shape this past summer. Got his body fat down to 11pct. Which is great for a 300lb man. I was looking forward to see what he was going to do this year. I went to the Bama game and watched him. He looked great. And, has kept it up all year. I think he's the top interior DL in the country now. If we want him, we have to trade up IMO. Let's hope NO loses in the 1st round. Pick is anywhere from 21-24. Will be easier to trade up. If NO and NE both get into the divisional round. I think we get a bye, and they win a home playoff game. The picks are 25-28. Going to be awfully hard to move up to the mid-teens from there. We could trade 1b and 2b to get him. Then move back from 1a to early 2nd. Pick up an extra 3. We get our pick that way and might be able to get Curry there. I really don't want to trade any picks into 2013. We need a lot of help/depth on defense.

CBS has a new mock out. Depressing news. Rang has Devon Still going 9th. Ugh. And, Reuter has him going 21st. Split the difference and that's where I think he goes. On a bright note, they both have Courtney Upshaw available when we pick. Does Upshaw physique wise remind anyone else of Dwight Freeney? Tree trunks for lugs. About same height. Even had that spin move last week. Courtney isn't going to run a 4.45 so that's why he'll drop lower than Freeney went. Rang has us taking Upshaw and K.Wright - wr. If we're going wr, give me the bigger target Sanu. Reuter has picking Hightower instead of Upshaw. And, C. Minnifield. I'm hoping Dowling comes on next year and McCourty forgets about soph jinx. Really impressed with Arrington. That could be a decent top 3. If we're going 3-4, could we take both Bama lb's? Upshaw and Hightower. Hightower plays inside on early downs and moves outside/de in the nickel? I know Ochmed would like that. But, I'll let him comment on that.

Good stuff, man.

I place far more weight on Reuter's Picks, for what it's worth. Rang had us spending a 1st Rounder on an O TACKLE or something of equally galactic stupidity, earlier. :bricks:

Is that like Cars For Kids?? :singing:

That song makes me want to STAB somebody.

It doesn't turn me into Jack Nicholson in The Shining(*), but it is definitely one of the creepiest ads on radio.

(*)True fact: I so wish I had been able to take a photo of this, but I once saw a Blockbuster that had it billed as The Shinning.

Yeah, that was last week. Cannon is 6'5". He can be our backup RT. We have 3 guys who can play LT. Light, Solder and Vollmer. Only spot we really need is a starting C. Unless we keep Koppen. Already re-upped R. Wendell. 9 OL would be; Light - Mankins - Koppen - Waters - Vollmer. Backups would be; Solder - Cannon - Connolly - Wendell. Have two guys on IR. K. Hix and R. Ohrnberger. Decision on Koppen will be made in March. We'll know by draft day wheter we will be picking a C or not. If Still gets drafted too early, I'm curious to see more of this Dontari Poe kid from Memphis. Huge and very strong. Lock down that LDE in a 3-4 and send Mr. Ellis packing.

Yeah, that was last week. Cannon is 6'5". He can be our backup RT. We have 3 guys who can play LT. Light, Solder and Vollmer. Only spot we really need is a starting C. Unless we keep Koppen.
