Patriots release Albert Haynesworth

Wow.

Beyond the short-term impact of another odd decision that only weakens an already weak defense:
The Patriots are really building a history of releasing veteran free agents quickly. You release Albert Haynesworth, Leigh Bodden, Joey Galloway, Derrick Burgess shortly after signing them, you raise a question in future free agents minds. Why should I sign with New England? They have a high failure rate. Whether it's a complex offense and defense that takes a while to succeed in, or they are too reactionary, my chances are better elsewhere.

Is the goal to build a winning team, or to build a submissive staff?

A disappointing season.

One thing for sure....Belichick's got some BIG BALLS to make these types of decisions and not even worry about job security.

I'm sure Kraft was notified prior to Al's release and for all the other releases for that matter, but at what point does Bill become accountable for all the boneheaded personnel decisions he's made that led to all these crazy transactions that's taken place this year alone.

Cody 2 years ago with Dunlap then JJ Watt & Phil Taylor/Prince Amukamara this year...look how much better the team would look with any of those 4 players instead of what they have now

Don't fit the system. Not value. Puts shoes on left foot first, instead of right. You name it.

Meanwhile, the clock is ticking on Brady's best years.

:(

Not unexpected...I hear Belichick's trying to get Ted Washington in for a physical :D Man, I miss that guy, Big Ted...an ornery bastard who did his job exceptionally....If Chad Johnson gets released, it's going to turn into a media circus, even moreso than it already is...team doesn't need distractions heading into Sunday night...

Duane Starks, Reche Caldwell, and Chad Jackson are trying to get through.

BB is on the phone with Brown as he is emailing Earthwind Moreland at the same time

Think people!

Gotta make room on the 53 for Ventrone!

Sheeesh!

Yeah, all these successful 5th round picks we've had in the last 5 years.

Other than my boy, Slater, is there one still on the team?

Dan Koppen springs to mind, for one. I think the point here, though, is that BB is all about volume picks, right up until the point he pisses them away on bad trades.

...certainly will discourage veterans from restructuring.

When one player constitutes your entire effort to improve a defense in a abbreviated off-season it's epic when that player fails. Plus the salary for both which you seem to forget about. I doubt Mr. Kraft just walks to the nearest toilet and flushes millions of dollars down the bowl, but maybe I'm wrong.

Shaun Ellis, Mark Anderson, and Andre Carter weren't brought in to help the defense? Warren wasn't resigned to help the defense? Haynesworth was not the only player brought in on defense. He wasn't even the only defensive linemen brought in.

I'm not sure where losing a draft pick around 150+, if I recall correctly, can come anywhere close to counting as an epic failure anyways.

... and Haynesworth was barely good enough to sniff the field for 9 plays, including his last one where he got dominated for an easy touchdown. At least Love plays with intensity and heart, not like Haynesworth. He can care less whether he is on the bench or the field.

Who cares if you have intensity and heart of your being bulldozed 5 yards down field because you can't do your job? Maybe Love had a bad game, but it's rare that Love does much of anything..

Maybe if they stop selling out, i'm not in any way advocating that, but if it did happen it would get any owners attention

Meanwhile, BB's boy #85, the 6 million dollar 9-catch receiver, gets more reps.

Is that "value" or "do your job"? I'm confused on my Pats slogans.

Why would it discourage veterans from restructuring? Haynesworth was on a prove it deal. One he knew he had to make if he had any chance of playing for the Patriots (or anyone) this year.

Agree. Haynesworth wasn't working on a normal restructured deal. He was obviously a special case after the whole Washington debacle.

Bodden was here for 2+ seasons.
Galloway was released because he couldn't run patterns.
Burgess was released AFTER he re-signed with the Pats.

You argument is seriously flawed..

Maybe tubby wrecks will pick him up as a cheeseburger eatin buddy.....

So many people predicted this when Haynesworth was signed. His locker room and film room presence everywhere he has been was defiant of any sort of authority by the coaches, and my guess is he was disrupting the coaches' ability to teach and prepare for opponents. With so many young players, bad behavior from veterans cannot be tolerated.

Haynesworth knew this was a chance at redemption and he didn't make that big a difference. He was #2 on the depth chart at his position and if he was at all a barrier to this defense improving, the Patriots are better off with Deaderick and Brace off the PUP list.

Opens a spot for Cannon to play.

That's my fear. Very plausible.

Unlikely. The Jets already have a DL rotation of young guys playing very well and with good chemistry. No need to disrupt that by adding Haynesworth

Well, say what you want about the team, at least it's not boring.:bricks:
