Re: Kevin Faulk suspended, fined

Yeah that's why they generated $16 billion in revenues last year, cuz they "suck".

Revenue = good workplace? got it, thanks for the qualifier.

I hear Nike made some coin last year too, how is their workplace...

Irelevant. That is like saying Walt Coleman should have given the ball to teh Raiders because the tuck rule is dumb.

Debating the value or correctness of a rule/law is not the same as deciding whether or not a person broke that rule/law.

The key if football, as in life, is knowing the rules and adjusting your behavior accordingly.

Just fall in place and don't question. There's no room for common sense discretion here.

Re: Kevin Faulk suspended, fined

Actually my job is quite good and my company is a great to work for b/c it doesn't tolerate people who get busted for possession. If you ran a company would you feel good about an employee you knew smoked pot and may/may not be influenced on the job?

I do run a company, I don't worry about what someone does in their private time. Now, if they did something that, say, cost them their license or something that did impact their work performance, well then that's a different story, but it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with drugs. In fact, in 7 years of owning and/or running businesses where we have a gamut of employees with a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, back child support and alcohol have been significant contributors to issues that affect employees ability to #1 be at work and #2 work efficiently. In those same 7 years, I've never had a problem with an employee with regards to pot. And no, I don't drug test, never have, never will. Performance is easy to test. Period, end of story.

Note the post I was responding to:

In context of the discussion, your response couldn't be more wrong if you tried to make it so.

Well said - people waste a lot of time and energy complaining about the rules being wrong instead of accepting the reality and taking responsibility for their actions.

Some of the rules are garbage, not questioning or complaining about them means they never change. This attitude baffles me.

You may have the luxury of making those decisions AFTER the offense occurs but other industries don't. In some industries, the safety of the public is at stake and companies can take ZERO chance that this could compromise the public's safety at some point in the future.

There are so many laws on the books that every single American is an offender, whether or not they ever face punishment. Many laws are completely idiotic, and reviling them does not have to have anything to do with "taking responsibility for their actions". I don't think that smoking marijuana should be illegal. I think it's an absolutely moronic law. The same goes with seat belt requirements, anti-smoking laws and beach nudity laws, just to point out some other examples.

HOWEVER, I don't smoke pot, I would never drive without a seat belt, I don't smoke and I would never subject the general public to my nudity. I don't agree with the laws because the laws are idiotic, not because I'm seeking to avoid responsibility.

At the end of the day I'd rather go through following the rules rather than worry about how BS the rules are. Much less stressful, even if some rules are garbage as you say.

This may be the biggest load of nonsense I've ever seen written here, and I've been around for both the past two offseasons AND the post Super Bowl insanity.

So you familiar with Chernobyl, Three Mile Island? Was that just nonsense? You're right, the safety of the public isn't a big deal, that's why we spend so much on homeland security and no nuke plants have been built in 20 years.

I'd rather have a smart guy who smokes pot on the weekends running a plant than this guy:

Yes. Which of those was the result of someone getting busted for misdemeanor possession while not on the job?

Chernobyl and TMI were the result of nuclear workers that were high?

Neither, and that's the point.

Umm, no. The point is that terrible accidents can happen even when workers aren't under the influence, that's why the NRC takes these precautions.

Depends upon where you work.

I see you base your knowledge of nuclear power on The Simpsons, congratulations.

So the point is that richpats is posting irrelevant items which completely undercut his argument. Got it.

About as relevant as your *****ing and moaning about Goodell.

Go back to designing your webpages or whatever your "company" does.
