Mayo: With the #3 pick we're taking BPA for the biggest need on the team

I'm starting to think the Bucs will find a way to keep Evans and the Bengals will tag Higgins. I think the prospects of rebuilding our WRs is going to get a lot harder.

This is one of the best WR draft’s in history.

I’m amazed at how many Patriot fans want to be the 2000’s Lions.

Kiper is the latest to have daniels going before drake. Now drake vs mhj would be incredibly interesting. At that juncture i might switch my pref to qb. But if maye is gone im leaning mhj if hes there at 3.

Fields sucks. Not much better than Mac

This past season near the end, Fields showed improvement throwing from the pocket. Plus, unlike Mac he's a strong running threat and can throw on the run. With him it might come down to proper coaching. I think he could be worth a second-rounder but perhaps not the Pats' early second. That's why trading down from No. 3 and getting more draft capital to work with makes sense. I like the idea of someone like Fields as bridge QB -- and possible longer-term starter -- vs. overpaying for a Cousins, etc.

Yeah I saw he improved some late in season, but still not enough for me to think he'll be a quality starter. He and Mac will both improve some more but not interested in either. I'd rather roll the dice on Daniels, trade up for Maye or take MHJ at 3 and maneuver for Penix.

Right, but Cousins has been successful and Fields has potential. Of course, people thought Josh Rosen had potential. And they thought Sam Darnold had potential.

On the other hand, Mayfield and Geno have shown that they can succeed for a season or so, but they were also really low-cost free agent QBs who didn't cost a draft pick.

Well, one consideration to also think about is that if they hire someone like Zac Robinson and move to a zone blocking scheme, it could also impact the type of OL personnel they want. Onwenu is considered by some to be a fine RT in their current scheme, but a bit big and slow for a zone blocking scheme, at least as a tackle. That may be why there are rumors that he’s not a target to re-sign.

I do kind of wonder if Strange could be a tackle conversion. He’s very agile.
Fair, but Mayo did talk about work in the weight room, though. There are several guys who need it and Strange is one of them. Cinderella is another one. Tough to pass on a guy like Onwenu, though.

Or the 2007 Raiders.

I think the concern is not that fans prefer WR, but there are less questions about MHJ or John Alt, than about the top QBs.

Some fans rightfully are concerned about wasting a top pick, which they haven’t had in a very long time.

How many of these 5 year seniors turn into all pro QBs.
No idea, not something I keep track of. The first person that comes to mind is Matt Ryan. My point was if their is concern about Bo's time in college then it should be a concern for Daniels.

Well to be fair I don't think anyone is advocating for us to take a WR with a top 3 or 5 pick, whatever it was three years in a row.

I just think there is so much depth at both positions in this draft, that taking the best WR vs the third best QB and then taking the 4th or 5th QB is not necessarily a terrible plan. Now if one is a true believer in Daniels then obviously they probably frown upon it.

I personally like his arm and his running ability. However his weight is a major concern for me.

With that said I was all in on Mac prior to the draft and beyond stoked we got him the way we did. So I'm thinking I'll reserve my opinion on QBs to myself and defer these type of things to the professionals.

You think they'll give final say of personnel to Wolf over Mayo? Or is it some weird two-headed beast thing of equals?

That is how most teams run, the coach has input, but personal guys (GM) has final say.

Ross: it's quite obvious Daniels and Maye will Grade out very well. Also we have some Top O-Linemen heading to FA in a meager class ie... Brown and Onwenu I really hope Mayo have a good relationship with Trent Brown he could fill a Tackle Void for a Young QB. We should able to find a RT in the Draft.

I want nothing to do with paying Brown....He is getting older, injuries have always been an issue, and his attitude sucks...not a guy I want to way.

Bingo, what this is really about is some fans not being sold on Daniels. Obviously if people were sold on Daniels then everyone would agree with taking him at #3. He could be the guy but I think he could just as easily be a complete flop. That is why I'm shying away from the idea. We have other positions of need that are more of a sure thing than Daniels.

If that's the case, bye bye, let him walk, we can find someone a little later in the draft since the FA markets thin.

You don't find starting day one LTs later in the draft. The last 22 seasons in NE:
Light (Drafted 2nd), Solder (Drafted 1st), Brown (Trade), Wynn (Drafted 1st), Brown (Trade)

The other problem if from what I've seen at this point, there really aren't any 2nd rd LTs that I would want to start on the blind side of a rookie QB.

Trade back a couple of spots in the 1st, take the LT you like, pick up more picks.

This is what it is. We need a QB, but we also are in a kinda crappy position where 3 overall might just mean the 3rd picked QB in a draft where most people view this class as only having 3 first round QB's and MAYBE one might end up late first.

It;s the same situation as Mac. We are letting everyone else pick and taking the leftovers.

Daniels just has redflags where if he busts people would look and say "duh, how could he not". He could also be a DK Metcalf style pick where it ends up that the question marks aren't all that important and he overcomes them.

The only way I'm doing that is if we are getting a QB like Fields in return.

Now Penix Jr. have red flags many I might add.

Right, but you don't normally hire the coach first. Normally the GM has say over it all. I feel like when you have both the coach and the GM answer to the owner without a clear hierarchy, you're asking for trouble.
