Brady vs Ben?

I also don't see Ben having success on a below average team.

I'm sorry, I thought that 17 was higher than 14 and therefore you were saying Ben is better, if you're not, what's the point of this post?

We're talking about mobility only right now. Brady is no doubt the better QB, but Ben is no doubt the more mobile of the two.

so just to be clear, mobility =/= elusiveness, correct?

I'm still not clear on the difference here. Are you saying that when Ben is flushed out of the pocket he is more successful at running and then throwing while these others are simply going to run? Romo and Young both seem to run to the outside and then pass just as frequently.

Absolutely without question. Teams don't fear Vick and Youngs mobility... they fear their scrambling ability. There is no QB in the league that is more deadly outside the pocket than Ben. While Vick and Young are scrambling for 10 yards, Ben is heaving one downfield for a big gain. Any defense would rather play Vick or Young because they can't throw the ball. 8 guys in the box all day with a spy... do that to Ben and you're toast.

The Pittsburgh Steelers won Super Bowl XL 21-10 over the Seattle Seahawks in Detroit on February 5, 2006. Roethlisberger completed just 9 of 21 passes with two interceptions; his passer rating of 22.6 was the lowest in Super Bowl history by a winning quarterback.

The paradigm of perfection ...j/k

I disagree. Nobody's better at recognizing pressure and sliding in the pocket while still looking downfield than Brady. Ben's just big and strong. A lot of the sacks he takes are because he doesn't adjust well in the pocket.

Let me tell you, I don't want either one of them running the ball regularly, I'd say that's a wash. I think Brady is excellent at avoiding the rush. So no, I'd say there is a doubt as to whether Ben is more mobile, it's not as clear cut as you say.

Thats because Ben looks to scramble out of the pocket before he thinks to step up, Brady will step up or sidestep the rush, there by still keeping in time with his receivers routes and not have to make his reads all over again and get reset to throw. Alot of Ben's int's come when he's on the run, just because he's better at getting out of the pocket than Brady doesn't necessarily make it a possitive attribute.

Since it's obvious nobody is going to give Ben the credit he deserves for his amazing mobility... so let's try something else.

Is there anything that Ben does better than Brady? This question should tell me who's real and who's a homer.

Agreed. This argument is dumb. Brady doesn't leave the pocket to go downfield, because he's great in the pocket (where a quarterback is supposed to be). Roethlesberger has to leave the pocket because he can't handle it in there and that makes him more mobile (or elusive, or whatever you want to call it)?

Roethlesberger runs better than Brady, but he is not more "elusive."

Exactly my point. "Mobility" is not the same as elusiveness where Brady has the edge IMO. His description of Ben's mobility is not an attritbute that Brady lacks but a stylistic/philosophical difference in style of QB which I think Brady is the best ever at his style while BR is similar to Romo, perhaps better than Vince Young at this point, but not nearly as good as Elway or Steve Young was. So you have the choice of a very good "scrambling" QB in Ben or perhaps the greatest "pocket" QB who ever lived. I'll take the latter please.

Also Romo is much better than Ben in terms of passing outside the pocket. This is Ben's first good season as a QB (statistically) Steelers fans really have NO reason to compare him to Brady in the least. Brady is on pace to be the best EVER Ben isn't even top 3 in the league IMO.

And it's so important to me that you don't consider me a homer! Please don't think I'm a homer!

Ben's better at the six-gun celebration, I'll give him that.

the irony in his posts is staggering

Fair enough, to some degree. Brady is a top Three inside the pocket and so is Ben. Ben is a top three outside the pocket and I don't think Brady is a top ten in that category. Teams focus on containing Ben and not letting him outside... they know what happens when he gets out there... so I would say it's very important.

Much as I like Big Ben, he is not in the top 5 of pocket passers

1. Brady
2. Manning (not the younger version - aka Eli)
3. Palmer
4. Brees
5. Warner (even now) or Hasselback

Accuracy is the key skill in the pocket and Ben is shy of all of the above.

Wow!? I'm speechless. I knew Steelers fans were passionate, I didn't know they were dillusional.

Ben is not as good as he was as a rookie and not as bad as he was last year. Perhaps he is somewhere in the middle...like this year. I think he is a good quarterback, maybe leading the next tier below Brady/Manning.
Ben has the Ryan Leaf thing about him - people will always overlook his faults because they fall in love with his physical attributes: size, speed, cannon arm, overall accuracy, and likable character.

Just as Steeler fans may want to put Ben in the same sentence as Brady...we can put him in with Leaf.

I'll give him credit, he's a very good QB (tied for 3rd in the NFL in my book). But is there anything that Brady tries to do that BR does better? I honestly don't think so. I think Brady's first thought at a rush is to shift around and glide inside the pocket, step up and pass, while BR's is to run to the outside and see if he can make something happen. It's a difference in style not Ben doing something Brady cannot.

There you go, Ben has a stronger arm than Brady...but then again, so did Bledsoe!
