Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson believe the Pats offense is essentially the same this year as it was during the 2004 season. He would know since he studied the Pats in preparation for the Super Bowl...
Reminded of that conversation yesterday, after the Eagles' Thanksgiving morning practice at the NovaCare Complex, Johnson was asked whether his level of angst had risen this week, as he watched film of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady using all of his new toys to carve up teams week after week on their way to a 10-0 record.
"There's no question that they're playing at a higher level than a lot of people have seen," Johnson said after managing another laugh. "I don't have to go on about how good they are right now."
Interestingly, Johnson does not think the Patriots' offense is much different from the one Brady ran during a tightly contested game against the Eagles in the Super Bowl. He does believe it is better.
"Really, they're doing the same things they did," he said. "They've added a few wrinkles, but it's the same stuff. Brady knows the system and they've developed it, and they're playing with such high confidence right now."
