Welker was more productive. But if we're giving people credit here for big plays and being key to championship teams, you can put Julian's playoff production up against Welker's, and Julian wins.

Statistically, Welker was more productive in the playoffs. Happy to give JE11 credit for big plays in big games but WW also made big plays in big games.

If you want to hold the drop over his head thats your perogative. I will not.

Julian's toughness in the Seahawks SB was something Welker never matched.

Right. Wes was never crunched over the middle.

Again, who came through in the clutch? Who was indispensable toward a Super Bowl victory?

I'll end it with: who is the better player? Stats say Welker, but eyes say Edelman.

I'm not going to get into a JE11/WW debate. Those never end well.

We know JE11 is a tough SOB. To imply WW is not is garbage.

1. Tom Brady
2. BB
3. Rob Gronkowski
4. Andre Tippett
5. Ty Law
6. Tedy Brushci
7. Stanley Morgan
8. John Hannah
9. Randy Moss
10. Irving Fryar

Why are you changing the words? I wrote JE is clutch. Wes was certainly tough. Tough does not equal clutch. Regardless, JE came u huge in critical moments, and I think he's just a bigger weapon.

You said...."Julian's toughness in the Seahawks SB was something Welker never matched."

I say that is a bogus statement.

If you want to say JE11 is a better WR that WW that is fine. I'm not ever going to agree with it so I'm leaving that alone.

Sorry guys, I'm late to the party. I only saw the special last night.

I know the top ten is more of an individual thing, but I was expecting more dynasty type players to be on the list such as Bruschi, Vrabel, Seymour, and McGinest. There were more 'old timers' than I was expecting but I'll be the first to admit that I'm biased towards the new players such I'm only old enough to know the Beldsoe and Brady eras.

The list just goes to show that we have had a lot of great players over the years and that the reality is that there was only room for 10.........so naturally you're going to have some controversial cuts.

One of the biggest difficulties is 'what criteria do you use to rank them?'........rings? Pro Bowls? career stats?

The one thing I couldn't help get out of my head though, is if someone were to ask you what players typify what it means to 'be a Patriot' or best represent the Patriots way, theses threee names pop into my head........

Tom Brady
Tedy Bruschi
Troy Brown

They provide the heart and leadership to the teams they've been on. I can see why this played a role but not a high one in this list. I'm ok with that.
How about a Favorite/Special/Super Top Ten? I see Brown, Bruschi, Tatupu, Nelson...yeah

To me, Welker's Patriot accomplishments are NFL HOF-worthy. JMO

Not sure he is NFL HoF as he might not have the #s but he is absolutely worthy of NE HoF.

I just hate the argument. Love Jules. Love Wes.

I hate that Wes didn't deliver when he absolutely had to but I refuse to use that as a reason to say Jules is better. I will not do it.

Troy Brown is the greatest all around football player that ever played for the Pats. Plus the talent, the leadership, the longevity and the loyalty.
He's in the top ten clutch, and all the above.
I've been watching all these years and I think you're wrong.....

Gronk certainly belongs on the list as the difference between him and all other TE's Brady has thrown to has been massive

Bruschi belongs on the list because of what he brought

Troy Brown belongs on the list because of the opportunities he made good on as well as his versatility in all 3 aspects of the game.

Ty Law certainly belongs on the list

the fact that some people did not see some of these guys play does not diminish the value of the current players or the players of the recent past
Ten's too small. Like, besides Bobby and Phil and maybe Gerry, can I put any other guys from the 70's Bruins ahead of the pre-WWII stars? I want to, but I can't. Not objectively.

That's especially tough to say when Wes was the lone offensive juggernaut in Super Bowl 42.

Right. You can't. Hell the Bruins Top 10 list would have most likely 6, maybe 7 guys from the 70s anyway.

Wes did his best, and like all Patriots, we fans will always love and appreciate him. Kind of my point about the Pats...you don't need to win a ring, to be a winner.

Exactly. Thats like saying Tedy Bruschi is better than Steve Nelson just because he won 3 SBs.

I've seen them both play and they were both GREAT.

This list is a lot more fun to play with now than it was back in the 80's, that's for sure.

Too many to mention would be worthy, but, Steve Grogan should have been on this list. He was toughest SOB and played with a neck brace on, set rushing TD record that stood until Cam broke it.. He also had alot to do with Morgan & Fryer and if it wasn't for a bogus call vs Raiders in '76 Pats would have been in SB. Maybe I'm biased because it was because of him I became a Pats Fan, just my 2 cents.

The end result has a huge part in it too.....as well as the luck to be in the right place at the right time and taking advantage of it..... the initials TB don't hurt either

you can't question hannah, period......#2 right now, probably the greatest guard of all time......there were plays where i remember him just burying 2, 3, 4 guys on one pull......hell, LB's shied away from him when he pulled and got a head of speed, let alone DB's

he was an absolute dozer

now when all is said and done, if gronk can stay healthy and string some more seasons together like what we've already seen, he will probably be the GOAT TE, and maybe comes in at #2, but hannah at 2 is a no brainer

the two guys i want on the list but can't justify are Mosi and Grogan - they were THE guys that defined the franchise for me as a kid......and they both would have fit right in with the current team intangibles-wise
