I'll be Nancy Negative and pray to god this isn't another Monty Beisel signing.

I like Reiss but hes all over the map with his analysis. Is he playing inside? Outside? Down lineman on passing downs? Where is the Ayers comparison in that outlay? Ayers didnt play inside. The correlation isn't 100% by any means.

People might remember in 2005 when Bru was still out BB moved Vrable to the inside. He even tried Chad Brown and Monty Beisel in that ILB/OLB/edge rusher role all with varying results. I think that is more what BB has in mind. Mostly ILB and every now and then OLB w/ 8 in the box.

Kudos for getting not one but two Monty Beisel mentions into the conversation. Not an easy thing to do:D:D

He is in my dreams.

I'll never forget when he freaked out on Tom Curran.

Looks like 3 yrs 12 million (3.5 guaranteed)

Overpayment, how did they figure a bust player like him deserves 4 mil per? They always sign a contract like this every couple years.

Yikes. Elway guaranteed zilch for his new OT.

Much, much more $ than I had thought it'd be...

Very intriguing. Was there really that kind of money being offered to him by other clubs ?

This passes Arrington and Cannon as the worst Patriots contract in recent years. Good Lord.

The Patriots chose this bust over Matt Forte...think about that.

Shouldn't we wait to see a snap from him in a Patriot's jersey before making this determination?
I mean the guy has been in the league and sucked for 4 years. Putting on a Patriots jersey is going to magically make him a good NFL player now?

3.5 guaranteed is all that matters. Basically, he's on the team this year, and if he proves himself, they'll keep him around afterwards.

I don't know how high you think his ceiling is.... at least with Forte, you know you're paying for an elite talent. Has Mcclellin done anything to command this much money?

I didn't say that. But how about we wait and see before calling this the worst contract in recent years? He'll be playing for a new coach, in a largely backup role in a new system and we're only committed to 3.5 m, something we can afford.

He's been played in roughly 6 or 700 different systems and his weight has ballooned around. How do you think you'd go in your career if you were asked to change the nature of your role every season?

A few players come to mind that played better in a Patriots jersey than their previous stops. I'm sure there were some who did worse. I'm willing to let this play out this year before I freak out.

This was a bit much for Hogan (although I'm fine with that signing overall) and McClellin is a worse LB than Hogan is a WR, and WRs make more on average than LBs (unless McClellin is considered an edge rusher). So by a bunch of transitivity, not a very good signing. BB must see Vrabel and Ninkovich in him, otherwise this is just stupid. The money isn't going to cripple the team financially, but it just seems like more than they had to pay.

That would be Jamie Collins in college.

I'd just like to point out that BB didn't pay Ninkovich the 2009 equivalent of 3 years/$12M and probably didn't pay Vrabel that much before either had proven anything.
