Amendola's Hit on Fleming

I think a lot of people almost search for anti-pats bias. They will only hear complaints about the Pats, but not the complaints against the other team. I mean, it almost sounded like the announcers wanted to yell out "You guys are the worst ever at clock management" in the stadium PA to the Chiefs. As almost always, the commentators had bad stuff to say about both teams.

It's hard to blame the commentators when our fans are the same way. The patriots have that effect on people. Just read some threads that said our offense was good because the Chiefs defense were injured. It's like they forget some of our best defensive players weren't even in the game at the end and our offensive players were playing hurt too. It's hard for some people to give the pats credit for doing something good.

I don't know, I thought Ian Eagle was gonna have an orgasm when the Chiefs scored their first TD to make the game 21-13. But maybe he was just trying to make the game sound more exciting. But he yelled "Chiefs are on the comeback trail !" And I laughed, was thinking, way to hide your bias there buddy.

But I loved when they went back to Bart Scott and all of those guys at halftime, you could see the Patriot's hatred on Scott's face during halftime, him and Gonzalez basically pleading with the Chiefs to come back. The look of utter despair on Scott's face postgame was priceless.
Well I just think it's funny people here complain Simms and Nantz are openly rooted for the Pats and here people think the opposite. If you want to hear somebody openly rooting for a team watch Tommy Heinsohn lol.

This Jamell guy on the Chiefs is whining about DA on Twitter. A boatload of us helped put him in his place.

Of course they want him suspended, anything to derail the pats.

I thought Fouts was decent. He has more of a pro-offense bias than an anti-Patriots bias, which is to be expected of the main man of the Air Coryell attack. He certainly had plenty of non-begrudging praise for Brady, Edelman, and the Pats offense in general.
Fouts drove me nuts. My brother and dad had to calm me down because of all his asinine comments and my yelling at the TV whenever he flapped his monotonous gums.

Anyone else catch when Fouts claimed Hightower gave a late out out of bounds? **** him. He was pissed that the Pats won.
He did a lousy job, but he was correct on that one. Even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

I think people tend to react emotionally to seeing apparently purposeless , violent hit injure a player. It is painful to watch. When you step back and appreciate that there is football strategy in attempting to block a player in order to prevent him from downing the ball near the goal line and preventing it from going into the endzone for a touchback (a huge swing in field position), and that it is legal (and advisable) to do so, then the discussion turns to the trying to understand whether it was a legal block--what rule was violated? Here, I suggest, the answer is far from clear, even on slow motion replay. And the reason, from my perspective, lies in the inherent difficulty, if not futility, of trying to legislate violence out of a violent game.

Amendola hit hit him less forcefully, more sideways, than it initially looked. There was no viciousness in it.
Unlike this hit that did not draw a flag. Watch this. Shazier intentionally lowers his head and drills Bernard in the face mask.

I've commented on it a couple other places...he coulda/woulda/shoulda went a few inches lower, sure. There was no intent to injure (a la Burfict), the play was NOT over, and it was physical, aggressive, decisive, and beasty. I loved it, and I'd bet BB did too.

Bill Belichick on Danny Amendola block on punt return: "It was a legal play. We're allowed to block him. He didn't give a fair-catch signal"

Bill Belichick adds, "After the play, when [Moses] snatched [Danny's] face mask & started shaking it...don't know what was going on there."

Looked like a dirty play I don't know...

I thought the hit itself was clean, but I'm unclear on the rule making it a personal foul. From what the announcers and Mike Cary were saying it was a PF. But it wasn't dirty by any means, looked like he led with the shoulder.

Do you people watch football? This happens all the time. If the returner doesn't call for a fair catch they can block the defense to stop them from downing the football. Amendola's block was more forceful than most but this type of things happen all the time.

He was blocking him from downing the ball and hoping it would go into the end zone. Really wasn't dirty IMO.

Just like it wouldn't have been dirty if Amendola caught it and Fleming did the same thing.

He did a lousy job, but he was correct on that one. Even a broken clock is correct twice a day.
Incorrect. Hightower made contact in bounds, and momentum carried them out of bounds. In his rambling, Fouts even admitted contact was initiated in bounds.

BB: “Saw him trying to block the guy trying to down the ball, It’s hard to tell from the coaching film where the hit occurred. It was a legal play. We’re allowed to block him. Amendola didn’t give a fair catch signal so he’s allowed to block.”

I kept hearing the .. ahem ... announcers ... talk about leading with the crown of the helmet.

What? The crown of his helmet was visible throughout the hit! It was a shoulder-to-collar-bone hit at most. You can see him clearly trying to get lower than Fleming to avoid a shot to the head. You can't hit with your shoulder without your head getting there first.
Right. He wasn't called for leading with his helmet. He was called for a hit in the direction of the opponent's goal line; it was a close call and arguable, but not an absurd call. The same call was made in the second game.

The announcers were idiots. Why do you care what they said?
