Edelman doesn't make trip to Miami

Julian Edelman, Rob Ninkovich, Justin Coleman, Dont’a Hightower, Jonathan Freeny and Sebastian Vollmer were all not spotted at the beginning of practice Friday, which does not bode well for their availability Sunday, as it’s unlikely they made the trip.

Jones is out.

This game will be a lot tougher than folks think if our some of key players are out ... IMO

You might be right, but I'm not going to sweat it. Miami is 2-7 in their last 9, and they've only topped 20 points once in that span. New England has not scored fewer than 20 points this season.

Wow! The Pats are definitely approaching this game as rest over the win. I still expect them to play to win on Sunday (or you would see Amendola McCourty and others not making the trip), but seeing Jones and Hightower already out tells me that they are willing to sacrifice Sunday to rest certain players for the playoffs.

It's a calculated move. I don't like it cause i feel being home throughout's very important but we will see if it pays off. Hope they can find a way and win. Will be difficult

Yeah. I'd rather have some folks that are 50:50 to play than rest them. Having home-field will help them in the long run...

The bye is already assured. What extra help do you think having home field is going to supply for injured players?

Well playing not 100 percent at home's better then on the road. It's been a long time since we went on the road and got to the superbowl. Almost did it back in 2006

Maybe one of the archivists can tell us the last time we had an injury list like this.

They've only played one road playoff game since 2006, so it's been tough to beef up that win column

That and why can't people figure out that on the road BS flags won't get boos raining down. It's a reaction that can't be underrated. How many times has the old "the officials want to get out of here alive" mantra been uttered? I'd look to the Baltimore replacement ref game and the Carolina game as two. To say well they have a bye locked up what else they need as some around here believe is wrong. Especially in the current anti-Pats climate. You need every and all advantages.

Well they failed once as the top overral seed since 2006. That was in 2010. I like our chances at home. It's not tough to argue

The Patriots approach to the Miami game and home field in playoffs is "He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day". Would rather have a "relatively healthy team" playing to win the Divisional round with the possibility of an away championship game than a team with an entire HFA that is too beat up for the Divisional round.

On the road they can get screwed easily by the refs. If we go down then let it be at home.

Who says they will be healthy either way? I would play some guys and sit some guys.

We could be seeing a lot of Sheard and Grissom Sunday. If Nink doesn't turn up, that's it for EDGE players.

We might end up in a 4-3 Under defense solely due to lack of bodies at DE. Sheesh.

Trying to duck out to go to the winter classic? Cheater!!!
No, he had to tape another segment of BurgerTyme with Chandler Jones (which explains why Jones didn't make the trip to Miami either).

What do you mean by "failed?"

One could argue that they failed with the top seed in 2007 as well as 2011 by losing in the postseason. As you mentioned, it also happened in 2010. The loss in the AFCCG to Baltimore in 2012 is certainly considered as a failure as well, so there are 4 examples.

All 4 happened at different levels:

2010--divisional round
2012--conference championship
2011--super bowl
2007--super bowl

That's 4 times in 5 years. Having the #1 seed helps, but it's far from a sure thing.

One thing you have to consider is, the better Patriots teams had better records. It's not sololy based on being at home. But, it's certainly easier. But, the 2009 team for example was not going to the Super Bowl even if the commish had awarded them #1 seed.

Don't need him to beat MIA...fine by me. Rest rest rest
