How many teams have more than average at best 3rd and 4th linebackers? Those are definitely backup positions. Having anything better than "average at best" as your backup linebackers is a real luxury. Take away all of the starting linebackers of any team in the NFL and they will suddenly have a very hard time stopping the run.Already said the defense has been playing very well and i'm glad to be wrong, but some of you act like you get turned on to keep trying to argue about it anyway. If someone says they were gladly wrong, why does it tickle your pickle to keep debating like someone is still arguing?
The only thing I will say now is that we have no linebacker depth behind Jamie Collins and Hightower. Look at the last game. Look at the drop off when both are off the field. we have two good linebackers and then a cliff after that. Linebackers get injured often, so it's ridiculous to say two good linebackers is "a lot of depth." Mayo is just a shell of himself and good leadership. Anyone after that is just average at best.
It would be nice if some of you could admit you were wrong about that, but of course you won't.
The drop off from Collins and Hightower is huge because they are both among the best linebackers in the NFL, that is a huge freaking luxury to have. So off course the next guy in line will look sucky. Most guys in the NFL will not look very good, especially backups, when they have to cover for two possible all pros. Hell, a lot of starting linebackers would probably look sucky if we had them as backups and they had to come in with Hightower or Collins out.
It would be extremely expensive to have a backup that's close to the same level as Collins and Hightower.
